Hello all,

I am helping the family of a close friend who died recently with an issue that they have with their his former employer over pay and other benefits he was supposed to receive. Because my friend was working in korea and the employer is a korean company it may be necessary to take this matter to a korean court in order to get what they are due.

I know many of you have had disputes with your employers and some of you have successfully used lawyers. If you have used a korean lawyer in the past that was helpful and that lawyer speaks english, I ask that you PLEASE PM ME the name and contact details of the lawyer. It would be especially helpful to know any lawyers that were willing to help you on a contingency basis with no legal fees being paid up front. Please let me know the details of what your lawyer did and how they were paid. I and my friends family thank you very much in advance for your help.

Best Regards,

CF

What did your friend do? I'm assuming you or his family has a copy of the signed contract? Try the U.S. Embassy website for a list of labor attorneys. You could also contact the Seoul Global Center for information about the attorney who meets(or used to meet) with people on Tuesday afternoons.

thanks for the suggestions everyone, I will check out the websites you mentioned. And yes we will definately go to the labor board and file a complaint first before we get a lawyer involved but I heard that the labor board decisions are not really enforceable and there is a lot of money at stake here so I anticipate that we will need to go to court eventually. If anyone has any first hand positive experiences with any attorneys please let me know. Thanks again.

i hate to say it but unless you are talking 10's of millions of dollars a lawyer won't get involved or it will end up costing you more than what you get. The labour board is your second (after direct negotiation with the hagwon) call and unfortunately your last call
