Yesterday my friend was called into his directors office, a Canadian and his wife are the owners of the Hagwon, just before classes were to begin. He was told that one of the students from the day before had complained that he had hurt him when forced the student to sit down and stop pointing a toy gun at him. The student in question is a trouble maker with a long history of behavioural problems at the Hagwon.
The owner and his wife preceed to tell my friend that either he pays a $500,000 dollar fine for the problems he's caused with the student or he's out of a job immediately. My friend tells these two to get f2#$#@ and leaves.
He's asked to come back that evening after classes have ended. The director tries to get him to come back but still wants to dock his pay for the incident. Again, my friend says forget it and then all hell breaks loose. The owner and his wife tell him to out of his apartment the next day by 9 am. They refuse to give him a LOR or anything in writing to say he's out of a job. They refuse to pay him for time worked this month let alone provide him with 30 days notice.
Today, he's out of his apartment, out of his job, and has nothing in writing from the Hagwon. The owner is refusing to work any sort of deal and has blown this guy off in 24 hours or so after my friend has worked for this @#$@# for 9 months.
I've told him to head to the labour board immediately with your contract and explain what happened. I'm aksing for advice as to what he can do and what he should expect to happen. I've been here for 3 years and have heard the Hagwon stories but I must say I was blown away at this owner's audacity and indifference.
I want to help out my friend first and then get even with this @#$$ later.

Best thing you can do is not be stupid, like "going after" the owner.
Give your friend a couch to crash on would be the second best you can do.
Your friend needs to file a complaint immediately. If he really hurt a kid, then he's fucked, but we'll go with your word for now.

...and only click submit once.
