| A few weeks back I had some shirts tailored at England Shirt in Itaewon. I am moderately happy with the results but have some complaints. This month I am going to get a couple more shirts tailored and am looking for some recommendations for other tailors. The tailors don't have to be in Itaewon but I don't want to pay much more than the 43,000 won per shirt that I paid at England Shirt. |

what are your complaints? new york near nashville's in itaewon does solid work within your price range. i don't think you'll be disappointed there. |

| Thanks for suggestion. Problems with shirts: a couple buttons are loose, bottom button is not low enough (I had shirts tailored to be un-tucked), lower part of shirt is cut to small (when standing in underwear shirt is tight around hips and pulls on last button), and there were oil stains on shirts when i took them out of their bags. Stains washed out. Buttons are still a bit loose. Shirts are still a bit small around hips. Hoping New York Tailors can do a better job. |

Is it your first time getting something tailored there?
You can't really expect to get something perfect the first time but if there are signs of bad workmanship, that's definitely a bad sign. Whenever I check out a tailor, I always start with one article to get a general fit. If they have good workmanship, I will go back. Sometimes, it takes several visits to get the fit perfect.
With that said, I have yet to find a good shirt maker in Korea and I've been to many places (including 4 tailors in Itaewon).
I did get a recommendation a few weeks ago that I have yet to check out but will visit tomorrow. It's located in Gwanghwamun.

It's above your price range (at least 50,000 won per shirt) and over 100,000 won for imported fabrics but you get what you pay for. The tailor supposedly trained in London. |

I've been to 5 tailors in Korea so far. The best was Lim's at the Hilton, but it costed about double what you get in Itaewon, so I started looking around Itaewon.
In Itaewon: I bought a shirt from England, but wasn't happy with the fit or overall quality. I've bought quite a few from MVP for my family, but a button fell off one and the pocket wasn't properly sewn on another. I went to Manchester in the basement of the International Shopping Arcade Building near the McDonalds to get a top coat made. The collar was messed up, but they agreed to fix it. And, most recently I have gotten several recommendations to go to see Mr. Kim at Manhattan on the 2nd floor of the same building. He made a nice dress shirt for me and is in the process of finishing up a suit for me. At my fitting it looked pretty nice, I'll pick it up this weekend I suppose. After all my experiences, though, I'd have to say that I agree that you shouldn't expect greatness the first time, and I'm going to settle in with one tailor from now on. The good thing is that they'll work with you and fix problems for free, even those caused by you. At the moment I'm thinking Manhattan will be my place. |

I had shirts made at Hamilton Shirts for years, but found the quality of make went downhill. I had one that wasn't cut right, then another that had a really wide waist but short shoulders. Odd little things, despite the same measurements.
The prices have gone up quite a bit, as well.
The tailors in Itaewon ship-out most of their stuff to the same places anyway, I believe. Probably to places around Cheongyechon, who even stick the stores buttons on for them. |
