Hi All,
I recently started an afterschool English conversation class... I have 10 kids of varying levels - 3 are very strong, the other 7 are very not.
I have found that when we do group activities, the kids talk to each other and work well together... but almost exclusively in Korean.

At the beginning of the programme, I posted a rule saying that I wanted the kids to speak English as much as possible. The thing is - when 7 out of 10 can barely speak English at all - to what point should I try to enforce this rule?

Yes -it is an English conversation class... but most of these kids are nowhere close to having English conversations. They will happily do the activities and projects and play the games.. but when it comes to group work - they do it in Korean.

Thoughts, advice and commiseration all greatly appreciated!!

I am working on the theory now that they need to write. I am getting the older ones doing future "will" and past "did", as well as routines.

Then after that, I am hoping I can then get them to interact in English asking questions and reading from their scripts. If that goes as planned, then they can try to do it without cues.
