two foreign teachers at my school, me (male) and another (female). All the men were asked to go out for a drink tonight, but no women. More than half the staff are women.

Is this a Korean quirk I haven't encountered before or is this just rude?

No they frequently do that. Usually it winds up involving a trip to a room salon or something that has a possiblity of involving prostitutes. If you were invited, there won't be any prostitutes since they don't want you to know about it.

It happened a couple times at my old school. The manager would invite me 'dinner' and say everyone is going. I would meet him as planned after school and notice only the male teachers were there. 'Dinner' turned out to be a hof down the road a little with some anju and many drinks.

Of course, there were other times where the whole office would actually go out to eat galbi, drink and hit up a noreabang.

Our office was made up of at least 80% female staff,
Ryan

Not likely. Hagwon bosses are too greedy to drop over $1000 on a trip to the room salon, and a group of public school teachers wouldn't go together to one either.

If you worked at a Chaebol, then they are probably going to a room salon.

From my experience, whenever it is a "men's only" event, it means they are going to get Samgyupsal and soju.

I haven't been invited out like that by the boss, the head teacher, away from the boss and individual staff members, yes, but not the "boss." maybe because we never really see him.

Basically all group dinner without inviting Panda would be offensive Evil or Very Mad

But I understand why guys dont bother asking women sometimes, some guys are f888ing stupid and hilarious after getting drunk, also sentimental like little girls. 1000 hahaha.

I think they are trying to be polite by not inviting you. They seem to respect you enough not to get drunk and try to force you to sleep with them. You should be thanking them. Wink

Really? Sleeping with coworkers is really scraping the bottom of the barrel......I take even drunk guys know that?

I actually have never been excluded from any group dinner, which really bothers me, like tonight, I am going to take a majoy exam tommo morning but people told me I had to attend anyway unless I was dying Shocked (I was touched by their perseverance though, they dont have to invite a panda who doesnt drink or talk on table, what they did is purely for friendship building. ) But that is also why I am still up now. Crying or Very sad
