|
|
I was married in Korea, and got a Certificate of Marriage from the US Embassy.
I am told that for the F2, I need to "register" my marriage in the US. Problem is, states only register marriages that happen within them.
Have other Americans had to do this to get an F2? If so, how? |

Can't you register the marriage with the embassy? I married my girl in both countries and lived there for the first 8 years of my bondage in chains...but before we came back to Korea, we went to the Korean embassy and had to show proof of marriage (or the Kgov wouldn't recognize the marriage) - but that's because we had two weddings, one there and one here.
You should be able to register the marriage at the embassy though. |

Embassy. We did it all same-day. Even took a taxi ride back to my university to get a teacher who'd been to our wedding to sign as a witness. |

I'm curious who told you that because it is wrong. Your marriage certificate from the US Embassy is proof enough. There are a few other documents, but I don't want quote them off the top of my head since I can't remember for sure. |

After you have registered with the embassy, there is a Korean government building behind and across the street from the US Embassy. You have to go there and have it registered in Korea. |

That's what I thought, guys. Thanks for the responses.
Kimmi (or the lawyer) is just screwing me around.
Anyone know a good immigration lawyer? |

Why do you need a lawyer?? The process is elementary. Unless you have extenuating circumstances... |

Could you please post the details of how you did this? I'll be doing the same thing this summer and am a bit confused about the process--we are having one wedding in the US then another wedding here in Korea the following week. |

We did all of the paperwork in one day, but had to wait on immigration to get the actual visa (took a week or two to get the actual visa after that).
There are directions on the US Embassy website in Korean and English. That's what we followed. |
