I'm writing this as a warning to anyone thinking about working for English Channel.
My main concern is for anyone thinking of accepting part-time work.
I finished a contract over two months ago and am still waiting to get paid. They have actually said to me "We have no money". The company is having serious financial difficulty and have closed many branches.
I really don't want anyone to go through the same thing I have. Not only do you not get paid but you speak to rude and unpleasant people who just don't care. |

Like I mentioned in a previous post about English Channel, they are going bankrupt and they literally have no money to pay their staff. For those currently working there, have an exit plan. |

I've heard (from a teacher in the branch) that the manager of the Shinchon branch recently quit after not having been paid for 4 months.
Apgujong staff were paid 5 days late last month - well, 15 days late really, since they only ever get paid in arrears on the 10th of the next month at the best of times.
I've also heard that the Canadian recruiter in chief (initials RW, for anyone in the know about things EC) has also finally jumped ship. If RW has gone, they must really be in crap. He was the white guy in his 50's with glasses who used to appear on many of their adverts. He was also the guy whose replies to simple email enquiries about EC and its contract were so obscure and elusive that several EC teachers believed him to be a Korean with poor English skills, until he met them at the airport. At which point they realised he was a Canadian who'd deliberately avoided answering any difficult questions.
I've also noticed an advert for a company called Maven English - the contract on offer is suspiciously EC like!! Well, similar to the EC regime of a couple of years ago, compulsory Saturdays. Any information on Maven, anyone? |

And people were replying to my other thread saying they couldn't understand how a large hagwon like English Channel could go under within 2 months.
Well, Robert who was the guy on the posters has left (along with many other senior foreign managers) and if they are jumping ship then it must be in a tough position. |

Some English Channels are franchises and some are owned by the company? Is this true? |

Correct, some are franchised, some are directly managed from their head office. |

Use the Chunnel instead. Swimming the English channel is too tough and taking a ferry is too slow and nauseating. |

...bumping this thread because I heard a rumour today that EC has now officially gone bankrupt. Is it true? And what of the franchises? |

Where did you hear this rumor? Does anyone know how to verify such information? Who to call? Peace. |

It seems Wall Street Institute isn't the only one having financial difficulties.
For those who may not know, WSI recently cut a third of their foreign staff. Wow. |

I heard it from an ex-employee, but he hadn't worked there in a while, and had it only on hearsay. I suppose you could try calling the place during office hours and see if anybody answers the phone? |

Thanks for the heads up OP. I'll refrain from watching this, "English channel," on local cable vision. Could be bad for my financial health which is already quite weak.
I've read they work the dog piss out of you and play bureaucratic money games with you. I'll pass on taking on the extra work and risks of a hagwon job. |

I asked a poorly worded question. Does anyone know of a number or website that has information on bankrupt schools in Korea? English Channel isn't bankrupt yet. |
