I'm admittedly at a crapwon and I have six classes a day, kids of all different levels in every class and I never feel adequately prepared. If I do a good job on morning kindergarten, then my afternoon classes suffer, and if do a good job with my juniors, my kindies are going to suffer a bit. Intellectually, it isn't difficult, but I've got to make every single flash card from scratch and re-invent the wheel in a thousand different ways, and then be told that "today is art day" at the last minute sometimes, I'm just wondering, what is the ideal?

If you are going to do this for a few years, you should develop your own curriculum. Then it is easier to modify them to fit the class instead of reinventing the wheel as you have recognized. I will send you a PM to a site I have up with some notes I have taken over the years.
