|
|
My wife just changed our Internet to Sk Broadband and we now have a VOIP phone included that uses only power, no phone line, and works like a cell phone some how. They are offering good deals. I said ok...as long as there is no router or any type of box used.
And what happened?
the guy has attached a router or adapter (I'm assuming it's a router) to my PC.
Shit...now Utorrent is saying the port is not open.. I have tried many ports, enabled UPMP etc in Utorrent but it's no good.
I have typed my Default gateway, and IP adress into my browser to try to bring up the router page if any, but no router screen comes up, just Google search kicks in. So it's not a router?
3 questions:
1. How does this phone work? It plugs into the power only, no phone line, so it uses the net? Is the thing he's given me a wireless router. Because it has no antenna.
2. How can I open a port?
Anyone Else have Sk broadband using torrents>? I can't live without upload.
Here's a picture of the router thing

If it won't upload, Im getting rid of this company.

so it seems this thing is a router/switch. My Ip adress and external adress are not the same. but every time I enter the gateway into the browser nothing comes up.
I just unplugged the switch thing a connected the the Pc directly to the internet and it all good. But the phone doesn't work.

Glad I'm not the only one with this problem - well, not glad, but glad it's not my lack of PC skills that's the problem. I don't know exactly what the box is, but without it, you can't use the phone - the phone has to go through the internet somehow since it's VoIP. The box isn't a router, it's just for the phone.
When my Internet goes through that box, I can't upload torrents at all. I can download just fine, but I can't upload worth a steaming pile of doodoo. I don't use my phone often (just for international calls) so when I'm just using the net, I plug the LAN cable directly into my router and have no problems uploading.
I had them come to visit a few times, but they didn't understand what my problem was. If you have any other ideas about this, please let me know... I'd love to know the solution. |

It's driving me nuts. The wife will call them tomorrow. She understands the problem but I don't know if the tech guys will considering my upload rate at speedtest.com is fine.
I'm imagining they won't know WTF I'm on about.
I'll let u know. |

Ok....fixed but I recommend anyone who like torrents avoid the IP phone package. SK Broadband is fine and fast by its self however. The service guy was good but it was a MISSION.
He had to connect a router to the white box.
He upgraded the router firmware and I finally got him to go into the port forwarding part after he logged on.
He called the SK office and had 3 IPs assigned to my PC. 1 for internet,1 for phone,1 for router. God knows why, I didn't understand it at that point.
Now Utorrent port is open, and upping fast, but I have a router and the other box. I hate wires!
Chukster: i think unless you have a patient Korean with you, it's nearly impossible. Good luck and I hope you figure it out too. I'm off to clean up the wires. |

Update:
My upload of torrents is still not perfect even though the port is open. I can't really get fast upload speeds unless I'm downloading.
Weird. |

Sorry to hear your woes mate but glad that you posted. I was considering getting an internet phone but I think I'll just stick with Skype after hearing your story! |

You can use it, just hang your PC off your router rather than off the access point for the phone. |

update:
They are getting a lot of complaints about noise on the phone. I have talked to 3 Koreans who have complained.
The wife complained about the noisy phone line and the guy came over and turned on the net socket in the living room using a router behind the "secret" panel thing,,,,you know where all the switches are in your appt. He plugged the phone thing into the living room removing it completely from the PC.
Now I have 2 rooms with independent net. But is it? I had to tell the XBOX 360 the DNS, default gateway and stuff (I used the same numbers as the PC is using). Then Xbox live connected fine. Before that, Auto setting couldn't find an IP, so I plugged in an xtra laptop in the living room, it resolved its own IP which I entered into the 360 along with DNS etc.
The 360 and my PC use separate IP addresses. What does this mean in terms of networking. I also have a TVIX 6500 in the living room I want to connect to the PC with.
Does separate IPs mean 2 independent net connections that can't be networked. I'm confused as hell.

they won't work without 2 different addresses. Every device needs a unique address.
They're not independent. they're all still going through the router and modem before they leave the house. |

I see....so when I see a router that on the box says "shared IP" it actually isn't?
So if things are in the same house they are automatically available to be networked? |

Shared IP in that sense might be referring to NAT. Not really something you need to be overly concerned with right now.
If things are connected to a central device like a router or switch then yes, they're available to be networked.
Let's start by getting you to post the ip addresses and default gateways of your devices. |

That's the thing. I'm not using a router. The PC is in a bedroom connected directly to the wall for internet.
In the living room, the VOIP phone thingy I posted a pic of is connected directly to the wall in there. I have the 360 plugged into the empty jack on it.
Both of them can get on-line no worries. the phone also works fine.
I should be happy to have to rooms on line with no router, but I want to network my TVIX 6500.
Is it safe for me to post IP adresses publicly?
This network thing is one thing about PCs I have never really got deeply into. |

Yes these are internal addresses and not routable. They're probably the same or same pattern as to what most other people have.
Knowing them doesn't do anyone any good except you.
There is a router there somewhere. its likely built into the modem. Where you plug it into the wall a line runs to the modem/router through the wall. |

edit
pramary and sec DNS are the same for both devices
I think if I assign the 360 numbers to the TVIX I should be able to connect to it using the TVIX's inbuilt SAMBA server and my PC browser. I will run a test latter.
