Question: my contract requires me to give two months notice to my employer in order to terminate my contract but I heard labor law only requires 30 days notice, which is what I'd prefer?

I had problems right off the bat at my institute with age discrimination and have also been expected to put in extra work for free.

So I have the possibility of another position, but the school won't be able to wait two months.

Background: In my situation, I was told almost immediately after starting work that my employer was thinking of firing me because my recruiter had lied about my age (which I had no idea about, said I was 40 but in reality, 55; doesn't make sense since your age is on your passort).

The recruiter then secretly continued to work with my institute to find a replacement for me. Another teacher in my school told me at the end of my first month that someone had actually contacted him about applying for my position.

On top of that, the new manager asks me to assess new students outside my working hours and has asked me to come in on my day off to teach a sample class to prospective students, not telling me I would not get paid because as she said later said, we're a "kind of servant" at the school.

Labor law only gives a minimum, your contract can be for more. If you sign a contract saying you must give 2 months notice, you are bound by it. You signed it, deal with it.

There is no legal requirement to give notice to quit. You are free to quit at any time for any reason under the labor laws.

It is strictly a contractual matter.

Getting another visa and job can be problematic however unless you have a complete set of new documents ready in hand.

Have your new school contact the old school. Maybe they can buy you (pay for your airfare over here and maybe the old school will let you go).
