It seems like every time I take a bus, nobody will sit beside me. On one hand it's great to sit alone, but on the other I think what's wrong with sitting beside me? I'm not that ugly! |

Yes. Everyone hates you, thankfully Seoul is full of bridges fully capable of doing their job. |

I got drunk on a bus and gave cookies to all the people on the bus. The only signle attractive girl refused my cookie. Not with a word but a gesture. Korean girls are frigid **********. |

i've had that happen before too and i used to be insulted, but now i compare it with the extreme alternative; people purposely sitting beside you so they can talk to you, even though you're obviously listening to your headphones and not interested. |

My friend I were walking down the street minding our own business and two girls passed us and starting running for their lives and kept looking back to see if we were chasing them. I also get to have two seats on the subway as people don't sit beside me. I must be scary looking because even a westerner wouldn't sit beside me the other day.
Being scared of me would be like being scared of Ritchie Cunningham but I still get scared looks from girls in elevators and on the street.
I think the town I live in is very conservative as in Busan I get smiles.
I noticed when I visit other countries how much nicer girls are to me compared to Korean girls. |

I get the same, but I am larger than the seats allow, so I enjoy the extra space
Sometimes the cuties run to my side
Maybe lighten up on the aftershave, that could help? |

It didn't used to be like that. I was here from '96-'98 and it never happened back then. It happens a lot now, and I wear a suit most days, and I'm not ugly. People will tell you it's because Koreans are afraid to speak English, but that's a bunch of crap, no one talks to each other on public transport anyway.
I let it get to me when I first moved back two years ago, but now I just ignore it. The seat next to me is usually the very last seat taken. OP, just use the seat for your bag. ha |

It's not always because of the Western look.
I notice myself deciding to sit down based upon whos my potential "seat mate".
Earphones? Great, they won't bother me
Cell Phone? Great they won't bother me
Old? Probably not, 90% of the time they will want to talk to me
Student? "ENGLISSHEEE" no....
man? Great, won't bother me
woman? No, they stare me too much (Not attesting to my inherent good looks, just fact)
Foreigner? No, I don't have the overwhelming need to mingle with "my own kind"
Cutey boys/girls. Very much, I think Korean toddlers are Adorable ^___^ I have candy and stickers I give and I promote English. (Sounds creepy I know... but I'm a self proclaimed public spokesmodel for foreigners and trying to improve our image. So I try to go around doing nice and good things) |

i tend to do the same thing. my big ones to avoid are middle-aged or old men who reek of soju, and little, hyperactive kids. |

This is funny and quite true.
As a woman, I only sit down next to the younger women. Why? Because they have a hard time staring at me from the side and they are usually smaller and so it affords more room between us. I don't mind ajummas since they usually leave me alone and the alternative is worse.
Ajusshis? Old men? Children. Never. I'd rather stand outside the train than bear that.
OP, you think it's bad that no one will sit next to you. Back in 2002, following the incident where two Korean girls were ran over by an army tank, I would sit down and Koreans next to me would stand up and walk away.
I think thing have improved! |

You could go all Rosa Parks on their arses and sit in the yellow old/preggers/disabled only seats. Civil Disobedience. |

What makes me laugh is whenever I sit next to an 18+ year old girl on the bus. At the slightest hint of my shoulder or arm touching her, she moves, and it must be really uncomfortable because I have broad shoulders.
I swear one time this girl almost looked like one of those Garfields that you stick on windows. |
