ok, so I am going to the North Korea Vs South Korea soccer match this coming wednesday, and although I like to watch Korea win when i watch them play sports (bar playing against oz) I intend to support the North Korean soccer team, mainly coz well im stupid...
anyways, I just wanted to know(because i heard in public places u can't fly Nork flags etc) at the game if i will be allowed to bring a flag-albeit handmade-or if i will be put in lockup(which i guess will be good for my korean skills) so if anyone can offer me some insight into whether or not i can do this legally please help (and i dont really have the time to hear from people asking me why, i just wanna know if i CAN) thanks in advanced... |

There are serious Nork sympathizers in the ROK.
I doubt they'll be hiding that fact. More likely very visible and vocal, especially at a sporting event.
Choose a team and show your support!
You'll likely stand out and some may be nervous you're just trying to be obstinate.
I assume you're no hooligan (at least for this game.) |

Usually if it is a political activity, foreigners are not supposed to participate. Is flag waving included? I don't know, but if you have to ask, it's better to stay clear of it.
On the otherhand, I fully support your decision to morally support an oppressive regime that tortures and starves its people. Go totalitarianism! |

Hell why not! Just as long as you are sincere inyour support of the North. Because then the savage and relentless beating that you take from some Korean or group of Koreans who have had family , tortured, imprisoned or murdered by that gang of thugs up North will have been worth it. Go for it!! |

It very likely is illegal in this country to display a North Korean flag and could hypothetically get you locked away, but I'm sure there will be a few people supporting them non-ironically. |

...or you could play it safe and wave the blue and white peninsula flag. |

Please, please, please do this! It should make for an interesting post after the fact... Consider it investigative journalism, or whatever.
a) You can report on crowd reaction
b) You can give a blow by blow account of the confrontation with the police
c) We haven't had a good inside report from a Korean jail cell in far too long
Go For It!
I also like the defense 'because im stupid'. It will be interesting to hear if that flies in court. It could set a legal precedent that would rock the ESL industry here in Korea. |

I'm guessing you're either:
a. Somebody with convictions trying to make an informed political point.
b. Somebody curious about the reactions of people from a sociological viewpoint.
c. An immature jackass that likes to shock people because it's the only way he can impress them.
If a and b is your goal then I hope you're articulate and do have a reason 'why'. If c is your goal then you'll need to have friends with you to guffaw at your audacity (you'll seem less brave with friends). You could also YouTube it, the only problem being that the type of people that would find it funny won't be informed enough to understand the irony behind your act.
I doubt any problem will be made inside the game itself, getting to the game with a flag may be a little bothersome but I doubt you'd get arrested (hide the flag until you get there.).
Security at the stadium itself will also be an issue as I'd say it will be pretty tight. Will North Korean supporters be segregated from South Korean? Somehow I don't see them letting you in with the North Korean side. |

boy, such prejudice. It's just like the time I wore my confederate general outfit to the Black Fraternity Party or when I had my SS uniform at the bar mitzvah.
While the blows rained down on my head I could only choke out 'I-thought-it-would-be-funny-"
I mean in college I used to be a real jackass and everyone thought it was hilarious when I'd shoot a stream of pee into the keg. But once I left Uni straight for my ESL job in Korea people give me dirty looks when I climb on the bars and start dancing (sans pants).
Why would anyone have a problem with you showing support for a country that they are still at war with, is threatening to attack them at any moment, and is a wasteland of suffering and death?
People need to get a sense of humor! |

Apologies, RACETRAITOR, for singling you out.
I see you aren't special amongst the finger-pointing hysterical moonbats trying to infect a SPORTING event with your political agendas. |

This is Korea. People have been locked up for saying things, according to some sort of national security act. It hasn't happened as much since the country went democratic, but it's still in the books somewhere, and could certainly be revived in the future. |
