17.7 Trillion won for Korean Stimulus and as quoted from Bloomberg -

"The government will spend 4.2 trillion won providing cash and coupons to about 2.6 million people with little or no income, improving heating systems for rental homes and extending cheaper loans to college students from low-income families. "

are English Teacher's eligible for coupons, cash handouts etcetera?

Legitimate question, no? we do pay taxes (for those of us that work legally, as I do at 10.5 hours a day)

Are you asking if making around W2.2 million a month is the same as 'little or no income'? That you are considering going to a Korean college and you feel that W2.2 million qualifies you for a cheaper loan?

You must have the country's absolute worst ESL teaching contract if you are on an economic par with the old ladies selling bags of garlic on the street.

4.2 trillion divided among 2.6 million poor Koreans comes to a bit more than 1.5 million won each. This would not be a lot for an E2 teacher. It could be a big help to some poor family.

The poorest 2.5 million Koreans, not being clear if they mean workers or individual citizens, would represent the poorest 5 or 10% of the country. I would guess, without looking it up, that these people have total incomes below 500,000 won per month.

It would seem rather unlikely that any E2 English teacher needs or deserves this money.

To the contrary, you should be looking for ways to help. What have you been doing to help out the poorer students and their families that you encounter here?

The answer to your very silly question is no.

More importantly: you work 10 hours a day?!?!?! Good grief!

A - too lazy to change my avatar area, but good point.

B - haven't you heard? any attempt to spread ESL outside of your contract without the express permission of your Hagwon owner and the acceptance of this release letter by immi is in fact a direct violation of an E2 visa?

I knew as I wrote the post, a simple question mind you, that it would probably be attacked in some form or another - and that's fine - as anyone who has read through dave's knows it's almost second nature for people on dave's to find ways to make themselves feel self righteous and progressively socialist in front of the comforting glow of their computer screens (brought to you by capitalism, BTW)

but since you asked the question, there is an orphanage north of Seoul that has about 12 boys in it that I did ask my Hagwon director if I could work with on weekends ( I read about it in a blog and shot the orphanage director an email that has not yet been responded too)

oh yeah, I've been in country for about 20 days and work 52 hour weeks, but your right what on God's green earth was I thinking asking a question on Dave's without first paying penance and flogging myself for the countless sins all the megooks before may have committed in your eyes Smile many apologies.

cheers
