None of the pho restaurants have Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (aka Rooster Sauce, Cock Sauce, Hot Cock Sauce, Kickin' Chicken). I can't eat pho without it. Anybody know where I could get some or if any pho restaurants actually have it? |

Check your local supermarkets.
The places near my joint stock it in the foreign food sections |

The wifey and I used to like eating a Pho-Hoa in the Hyewha area. Then we happened to walk by the back door, which was standing wide open, and saw what the kitchen looked like. We went back a 2nd time and peeked through the same open door. We haven't gone back since. |

I had my parents send me some.
They also lack a decent amount of meat, noodles, and limes. Pho in Korea is more like Betnamese Kong-nam-mool-gook. |

They have it at the foreign food mart in Itaewon, but it's much sweeter than the stuff back home. It'll do in a pinch. |

Korean Pho is a sick joke. Where are the herbs?
Just another example of Koreans being too cheap or lazy to import real ingredients. They say the lack of original ingredients is to appease "Korean tastes", but Koreans who've been to Vietnam talk about how delicious the soup was, so that's nothing but a huge pile of donkey doo.

I'd be willing to wager that at least 80% of the restaurants in Korea would give us the same impression if we could see the true bowels of the beast! |

The price too. It`s quite high for rice noodles with one or two strips of beef in broth. I know it`s foreign food but 9,000-12,000 means a huge profit for them. |

Pho is like 8 bucks USD for a big bowl in the US, such a rip. |

Yeah miss the herbs the most. Pho is practically inedible here.
If anyone can recommend somewhere good with herbs, limes and decent chunks of meat, please let us know. |

Oh okay, I'd been wondering why something people go on about was so disgusting when I tried it. Never had "pho" before Korea, thought it was just nasty over-rated crap. Have to try the real thing sometime. |

It tried Pho Bay in Ulsan visiting a friend there. It was passable.
The broth was almost good. They offered a reasonable amount of bean sprouts and the sauces were decent. Basil was absent, of course, but aside from that it was reasonable. (Not unavailable, just too expensive from what I hear.)
This is not to say it's awesome authentic pho but you can do much, much worse. |

They usually have cilantro/coriander but you have to ask for it. It's called "kosu" with a very light touch on the 'k'. Be prepared to keep asking though as they aren't expecting a foreigner to know about, much less request it. |

As one of the few Vietnamese-Americans here in Korea at the moment, I would say that Korean Pho does suck donkey balls. I can actually make pho (takes about 6 hours or so to make the soup) but I've been looking for ingredients all around and I can't find like half the stuff to make pho. Herbs and spices are my biggest challenge to find, as well as Siracha hot sauce and Hoisin sauce.
I live in Busan currently, and I've tried the Pho resturants here and they are craptacular. Anyways, at least I can make spring rolls cuz they at least have the rice paper at the supermarket, but I need the hoisin sause for the peanut sauce... =/ |
