Quote:
Japan's opposition Democratic Party President Ichiro Ozawa has floated the idea of buying South Korea's Jeju Island on the strength of the yen's rise against other currencies, Japan's news outlets reported, quoting a former chief of Japan's largest labor organization.

''Let's buy Jeju Island given the yen's current strength,'' Ozawa told Kiyoshi Sasamori, former president of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation, or Rengo, in February, according to Sasamori.

I just checked what he really said and yes, it's just international political trolling. A former union leader said that Japan should buy up Jeju-do, then Ozawa said that since Korean capital is trying to buy up Tsushima then they should be able to buy Korean land too if they want, but Ozawa didn't even know what Jeju-do was in response to a question so he obviously doesn't have any clear designs on the island.

Even if you don't know Japanese you can see him in the video not knowing what the reporter was talking about with this "Jeju":

I hope no one actually thought the guy was serious.

Personally, I think that's the best response he could have. Show the idiots who want to buy Takadokdo exactly what you think of them via biting sarcastic humor.

The Japanese are smart business people... they already bought half the land around Sydney and the Gold Coast (famous tourist destinations in Australia) back in the 1980's..

However, I guess they can only buy Jeju-do if it is "For Sale"..

I could never see Korea selling Jeju-do - it means to much to their national pride to have a small island that they can boast as being the "Haiwai of Asia"... (which of course its NOT)

It's funny how after spending time in Korea a lot of us will automatically side with their opposition. I remember cringing when a Korean golfer was about to win a PGA event because I knew I would hear about all day long for the next few days and how Koreans dominate the LPGA, highest IQ, 5000 seasons, ad naseum. Like most Americans I was neutral (more like apathetic) when it came to Takashima but after spending time in Korea and seeing their antics I am very much pro Japanese now.

I think it comes from their ajeossi style of politics. Never compromise, wave your hands around a lot and bluster, respect only aggression and loud noises.
