|
|
Our school recently filmed all the teachers in class- we thought for evaluation purposes. We found out that they actually want to put teaching clips on the website so that students can choose which teacher's class to take.
Many of the teachers don't want these videos posted on the school's website. How can we prevent this? Are there any image-use laws in Korea? |

You work at a hagwon and the others are FTs, too?
So far, I've been in a big ol' poster subway advertisement for Nowon school district (you might have seen it at City Hall Station), and I was filmed for a web ad for our school.
No one really asked me about either of these, they justkind of informed me they were doing it, so I think trying to fight for image-use is pretty futile.
If you're one the same visa as me, you cant make extra money as a model anyway (not that I could, I'm just sayin'), so I just shrugged and said 'ok, I guess being in an ad will be ok.'
Your situation sounds a bit different, but I dont think its a winnable fight. I can almost guarantee the school will not understand where you're coming from or why you're upset. Asia, in general, doesnt really work that way.
but good luck with it |

Unless your Wayne Rooney or Vince Carter, your image rights probably aren't worth very much. You can probably kick up a stink and get out of it but it won't do you any favors.
Inside the class room you probably don't have a leg to stand on. In the west it would probably be considered a public place, therefore, fair game. In Korea, it's probably even more liberal.
As long as you aren't doing anything that could tarnish your image, I would say to just go along with it. I would try to get a copy to use in my CV. Think how much Korean employers value a photo in your CV, imagine if you had video of yourself. |

They are paying you. They were paying you while they were filming you. According to their way of thinking, therefore they own what you produced during that time (goes the same for lesson plans and extra materials).
If you try to fight it, you're going to make yourselves look bad. This will help the school. You work there. So, they think you should want to do everything you can to make the school do better.
Culture clash, and you're on the losing end. I wouldn't try to fight it. Just go with the flow, and send links to your friends to say "hey cool look, I can get kids to mimic what ever I say, isnt' that fun?" |

It's too late now. The time to ask was BEFORE they filmed you. |

This sort of thing kind of bugged me. It wasn't the image thing, but I didn't really like the usage of my name, my credentials and all that sort of thing that they did without my permission. But they did it, and after some time, I just shook my head and said whatever. Yesterday, they wanted a copy of my CV so they could broadcast all of my degrees and accomplishments. I was half tempted to create a fake one saying that I was once the King of France, just to see if that would get accredited to me. But again, whatever. |

There's a girl I see on the bus in my dong all the time. Three days ago, I saw her on a TV ad for her hagwon. The next day, I mentioned I saw her on the TV ad and she was shocked. lol.
You'd think someone would've let her know. |

I was thinking something simple, like "Plays well with others". Although, I'm still thinking "Former king of France" for that CV. Of course, I'd hate to leave out "Missile Command Standing Champion, 1987 through 1992, minus 1990 cause that stupid pocket protector kid cheated and hacked the machine". |

This is SOP for Korea. My mug turns out on all sorts of stuff my school makes. The same goes for the Korean teachers, but not nearly as often as with me. I like my school so I have no problem with it. If I hated my school I'd just make a point of staying away from cameras at work. |
