So, we just got these lovely new state of the art English classrooms, and our first shipment of DVD's and books (it's like Christmas and we've scrapped our usual lessons to play with the new toys and watch the new movies ) for the new English rooms, but the books are all so encyclopedia-ish, and my teachers have asked me for some more recs.
These are middle school kids, and their proficiency levels are pretty low. I was thinking Dr. Seuss (which might be too easy) for the younger kids, and maybe Goosebumps or Harry Potter (which might be too hard) for the older ones. My school is in a really small town so the kids here are fairly innocent and they seem to still have a penchant for kiddie stuff. I picked up a copy of Nim's Island at a bookstore and that's been a hit with my lunch-time English club, but I need moooooore!
What else? Has anyone used graphic novels to teach?
Thanks! |
