|
|
Is it possible for me to fly to Korea, with all my documents, and find a job out there in Daegu?
I had a job and visa sorted, but couldn't fly for health reasons, so lost both.
I'm now well, and have to send off for all my documents again, as I have been told I cannot get them returned to me.
I don't want to wait around for couriers and numbers and sending my passport off, so just wondering opinions on actually paying for my own flight and finding a job out there?
Any advice would be much appreciated....thanks! |

I believe most visas in any country must be filed from outside the country. Are you really in that much of a hurry?
It will take 1 month if you already got all of your documents, and if your documents are in korea already you can have them forward them to your new recruiter/school and get started on the new visa number, |

Well, the documents ARE in Korea, apparently immigration can not help me with my documents, and the school I was supposed to work at are not responding to me about forwarding them on. So I have to apply for new ones. Does anyone know of how I could get these returned/who they would be with?
I feel a bit let down by the system, which was why I thought getting a job while I was over there, then doing a visa run to Japan, would be a good option as that way I could see the school I'd be working at and not risk my documents....again! |

| Yes, it is possible for you to fly here and get a job. However, you will need to do a visa run to get your visa. Most commonly, this is done in Japan. If this is your first E-2, you will also need to find an employer who is willing to have your degree verified by the KCUE. This will mean that you are exempt from the need to have an interview at a consulate in your home country. This process takes about two weeks. Then, they can apply for your number. I would imagine the costs would mount through the whole process given the time. |

| I'd be calling the police and a lawyer about your stolen documents. |

This is true.
It used to be possible, but now it's a more iffy proposition. It's better to do it from home where you have some food and shelter. It isn't fun to be in a foreign country and pinching pennies. |

| I wonder if when you arrive there and secure a job with a school, if you can be reimbursed for the airfare you would have taken with the school had you signed the contract before leaving your country. |

You can secure a job once here (in K-land) and negotiate to have your airfare reimbursed... no guarantees though. However, it's highly unlilely the employer will pay for a visa run to Japan as well.
In a nutshell, if you come to K-land without a job -
Disadvantages: until you find a job, you will have to house yourself and supply your own medical insurance; plus, your airfare to Korea may not be reimbursed.
Advantages: you can actually 'check out' the employer and housing. |

| Documents are only needed by the K-embassy in your country. The employer might want to see them as well BUT never, ever send them. You need them to bring to the embassy. Scan them into your computer and e-mail them. Done deal. Lesson learned. |
