Ride on new subway line to cost 900 won
Subway line No. 9, slated to launch in late May, will tentatively charge the standard 900 won ($0.65) for a ride despite opposition from the operating company, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said.

The 25.5-kilometer (15.8-mile) line will link Nonhyeon in southern Seoul and Gimpo in western Seoul, where Gimpo Airport is located. The route will also pass through Dangsan, Yeouido, Noryangjin, Dongjak and Gangnam Express Bus Terminal. An express train that takes 30 minutes to get from southern Seoul to Gimpo Airport will also be running. Under Seouls current public transportation fee system, a combined traveling distance of 10 kilometers by bus and subway costs 900 won. An additional fee of 100 won is added on for every extra 5 kilometers.

However, Seoul Metro, the private operator of the subway line, has proposed a basic fee of 1,582 won, citing inflation and a smaller number of passengers compared with other lines.

By launch they don't mean open. They mean begin construction. I live near Seokchon Station on the new line. If there was construction underway here, we'd know it.

It'll be finished in about 4 or 5 years.

The stations around Kyobo Tower Sageori are practically done, it seems. The exits just need to be cleaned up a little.

I rode a green line subway car and it DID have the new No. 9 line.

And for the poster who said he doesn't see construction so it must not be near completion, please get out more. The line will be done in May.

That's not Line 9, that's the New Bundang Line.

Actually, Line 9 will have a stop at Kyobo Tower Sageori as will the New Bundang Line. Check your links again...

There are still posters on this site who claim that there's no way to take the subway to Incheon Airport, so I expect some people here to be behind the times, so to speak.
