Hey guys, my girlfriend is coming over from Taiwan in two weeks and her parents want her to buy some Korean ginseng root. None of the refined/cleaned product that you can buy in the stores but the real plant product. I don't have the exact picture but it is something pretty close to this. Does anyone know where I can buy this in the Seoul/Incheon area?

You can find it on the street markets; there are always some adjummas selling it.

Makes good sam gae porridge or ginseng tea. I love the stuff.

The department stores have many kinds of fresh ginseng in their basement. Expensive but beautifully packaged and pretty fresh.

The best places for ginseng (인삼/insam) are 금산 (Geumsan), 풍기 (Punggi) and 강화도 (Ganghwa Island). Just keep in mind that not all ginseng is created equal, so a little sleuthing will go a long way.

A couple years ago, I had the best 삼계탕 (chicken ginseng soup) ever there. The market is fantastic.
