The New York Times reports today that the super-secret National Security Agency allegedly tried to wiretap a member of Congress without a warrant. It quotes an unnamed intelligence official "with direct knowledge of the matter" as its source for the allegation.
The newspaper quotes the official as saying the NSA believed that the lawmaker was in contact with an extremist who had possible terrorist ties and was already under surveillance. The report says the identity of the lawmaker could not be determined but was part of a Congressional delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006.
The official, according to The Times, says the plan was blocked because of concerns from some intelligence officials about using the agency, without court oversight, to spy on a member of Congress. |

They need to just go ahead and make it to where everyone in America can punch * then the area code and phone number of whatever American phone they want to eavesdrop on and go ahead and listen in. That way it would be fair, instead of these guys at the NSA listening in on the phones of unattainable girls they had crushes on back in high school. |
