Hey, I'm about ready to switch schools but I have a couple of questions.
1. I have been told by a school interested that in order to get a new e-2 visa I'd have to get a Letter of Release from my current boss stating that I am completing my current contract and I am able to get a new e-2 visa.
2. I have heard different stories on how to handle the criminal background check, I have gotten one for my current job but I am uncertain on how to handle the situation this time around. I have been told two stories: 1) I can get a local one here in Korea since I am still under an e-2 visa and I have not left the country. 2) I'd have to go back to my home country and get another proper CBC from my hometown.
Any help with my situation would be helpful. Thanks. |

Need some clearer information.
Are you at the end of your contract with your current school?
1. If yes, then you will need a new criminal background check (which you should be able to order from your state police office and then have them send it to the Department of Justice for an apostille and then have them send it to you).
If no, then you just need a copy of the background check you submitted for your current E-2 visa.
If you are not completing your current contract, then yes, you do need a letter of release from your current employer. You will then take that, along with the other necessary documents from your new employer to immigration and they will transfer your visa. Take some cash with you though. If I recall correctly, the fee was 60,000KRW to transfer the visa. Depending upon your new employer you may also need to get a new medical check. While immigration doesn't require this, your school may. |

You know it never occured to me a year ago to get a copy of my criminal check. And knowing Korean offices it wont be easy to track down. |

it took a few hours for immigration to send a scanned file of my cbc to another immi office.
problems may arise concerning date of cbc and/or how long you've had your current e2. |
