I have my interview in NYC tommorrow and was wondering what kind of questions I should be prepared for. What was your interview like if you had one? Any helpful input would be awesome! Thanks in advanced! |

Do NOT mention you're worried about failing the drug test. |

Find out where it is the day before and show up early.
Here are the questions I got.
How would you teach large classes of low level students?
Do you know any famous Koreans? |

They will ask you every question on your questionnaire even though it's right in front of them.
Then I got:
What do you know about Korea?
Why do you want to come to Korea?
Do you know anything about where you'll be living? |

They might not ask you anything at all, but it's best to be prepared. He asked me my maiden name (??) and where in Korea I was going. Then he asked to see my husband and that was my interview. My husband was asked if he smoked and told not to smoke at school and then both our files were tossed into the "accepted" pile. Not really worth the 8 hour drive to Chicago, but that's what happens. |

I waited 3 weeks for my interview... It lasted less than 2 minutes...
First part was asking me all the stuff they already knew (degree from where? hometown where? working for whom? etc etc)
Second part was two questions: Why Korea?, and How do you plan to teach Korean students?
Biggest waste of time since George Clooney in Solaris... |

Presumably they're doing these to weed out the obviously (to them) insane people that might otherwise enter their country. |

Take your school/recruiter contact info with you in case they screwed up the visa number. I always tell people to keep hard copies of all your documents that you sent to Korea, take those too, including your original degree and a printout of your unofficial transcript--so you don't have to open up a sealed one.
Wario called home (I'm his mom) to get a phone number to his college president's office. I still had it tacked to the fridge. They were calling there to verify his degree, I suppose. So take that contact info with you too.
Don't forget your passport! |

Just bring the correct documents and look presentable.
My interview was more about SEC football than teaching or Korea.
Just be a nice normal person- and if you aren't, then pretend to be a nice normal person. |

1) Don't leer at any children (at least, none of the korean children)
2) Don't flirt w/ any pure korean women who happen to work there
3) Don't bring your stash of drugs
4) Don't mention your stash of drugs
5) Show up (preferably wearing all of your clothing).
My guess is that the embassies don't have a clue why they are doing these stupid interviews and see them as pointless red tape to impress people back home.
Seriously though... Key things that all koreans love: You're here to see the beautiful country, learn about their culture and you heard the students are so polite and respectful to their teachers. You're sure you can learn a lot from your coworkers and follow your elders. They're going to put a big shiny red stamp right across your arse. |

I'd expect nothing short of a waste of time. If I had to go out to the consulate for an interview for my E-2 I'd forget about Korea in about two seconds.
Here's a collection of stories from these E-2 "interviews":

Hey OP, how'd it go?
Yea, Smee... couple of things from the blog link are what Wario told me about his interview last summer:
Quote: |
"He asked: 1) Where my last name came from."
"the interview involved a guy who barely spoke English asking them where they went to school, then checking on the schools existence." |
And he took his (newly minted) degree with him. But he had 3 days of fun partying in NYC between Manhatten and Brooklyn. |
