Am planning a break for when a friend comes over to stay in July and we want to go somewhere to hit the beach for a few days. Looking for some sand, some sea, nice places to eat and a bit of nightlife. I've only been here for a few weeks, so am open to any suggestions as don't know where to start!
Oh, am in Bucheon, so somewhere that's fairly easy to get to from there/Seoul will be a factor.
Thanks for your help! |

I went to a really neat place yesterday in Gangneung. Gyeongpo beach is a big swath of wide course brown sand with sea shells. On the beach road, there are many restaurants, some night club looking places, motels, and hotels. Probably lots of singing rooms too. As with everywhere else, except Itaewon, I wouldn't expect bars and night clubs catering to single people like they do in Western countries as everything, except the toilet, is group oriented in Korea. I too like full service restaurants ready to serve a single feller with a smile as well as bars where you can just drop in alone and chat with strangers over a cold real beer. As a single guy by himself, Korea is more of a walk through exploration than a hands on experience for this very reason.
There's also a large lake where 4 wheeled pedal bikes for 2 to 4 persons to enjoy made by, "Technoart," from Italy are for rent as well as bicycles built for 2. Also tiny electric motorcycles. Lots of cherry blossom trees, art sculptures, a pavilion place that looks like a buddhist temple, and a war memorial.
There's also the Edison science museum and a gramaphone museum side by side with a glass box built around these really old classic Model T Ford cars in mint condition. Too bad they don't have the cars in a proper viewing gallery as they are the finest examples of cars like a 1918 Model T Ford. Amazing unexpected piece of American history, but terrible way to display them if you know what I mean. You will when you see it or if you've already been there.
In July and August, I would expect Gyeongpo to be full with it being difficult to impossible to get room if not with a Korean and maybe booking ahead as I seen Summer time pictures of Gyeongpo beach covered with thousands of umbrellas and chairs. Not a single one yesterday, allowing me to get pictures of a very beautiful temperate climate beach. |

mudfest is the first week of july, i think. it's near daecheon, west of daejeon (korea is not so creative with place names), on the west coast. it's about a 2.5 hour drive from seoul. |
