Hello people:

Have any of you had good experiences with particular Korean realtors?I'm trying to compile a shortlist of good agents to deal with before I head over there to rent a place. Feedback will be appreciated.

Good luck.

You will probably be better off finding an area you want to live in, then hitting the pavement and talking to EVERY realtor around that location. This is because realtors often won't share information on the better places because they don't want to split commission with another realtor.

You'll find 3 realtors on a corner. Two will check the computer, make some calls, and tell you there's nothing for rent in the big apartment complex across the street. The third realtor will have 2 places for rent in that same building.

Doing the footwork pays off.

Use the internet only for price ideas and finding realtors. The more attractive deals on the Korean sites are generally fakes realtors use to bait/switch you with.

Do a search on my nickname, along with apartment as a keyword. I wrote a ton on this recently.

Every boo dong san in an area shares the same information so it really doesn't matter who you use. Not to mention that there will probably be 30 different boo dong sans in the same location so if you don't like someone's attitude just cross the street and try the next place out.

Most of my experiences have been fairly positive, save for the pricks who asked a $300-$500 "finders fee" for literally walking me across the street and handing me off to another realtor.

Of course, I refused to pay, and there was a huge argument between realtor 1 and 2 over the table scraps once I had signed the papers, etc.

I had a very pleasant experience with a guy named Simon at Dongwon Realty in Itaewon. Nice guy, decent English, was patient and understanding when my former landlord stalled two weeks on returning my key money. You can find a lot of his listings on englishspectrum.

If you're looking in the Yongsan/Itaewon area, I would recommend using him. PM me if you'd like some contact info.

If your looking in the Shinchon/East side of Hongdae I had dealings with a guy who spoke pretty good english. Come out of Shinchon Station (The Hyundai dept Store exit) and keep walking for about 2-250 meters. His office is on that street on the right handside.

The office is called Sejong Boo dong san and their number is 02 336 8946. His name is Bryan, he seemed like a decent chap, very helpful and knowledable about the area

good luck
