My visa expired on April 5th (Sunday or yesterday). And here's one of the interesting things: I never applied for an alien card since I was given 60 days notice one month into the job (early February). I called 1345 (immigration hotline) and they told me to go to Seoul Immigration in Mokdong even though my previous job was in Incheon (and that's where my visa was processed). Their reason was since I didn't have an ARC, I wasn't registered and because I am now living in Seoul. So I went there with release letter and passport last Friday and they were confused about me not having an ARC. So I got them to call my boss, etc. The official came back and told me that I had to go to Incheon and that my boss would have to go in with me.

So today I met my boss and her husband at Incheon Immigration. The official there was also confused. He originally said that I could stay until May 6th, but then asked for my alien card (he had asked for my passport at first). When I told him I never applied for one, that's where the confusion started. The boss's husband, whose English is better than his wife's, was translating, etc. Actually, when I first got there, he asked "What do we need to do?" They had no clue. Anyway, I explained to him that I never applied for an alien card because I was given 60 days notice one month into the job. I didn't want to pay for a medical, etc. for no reason.

So to make a long story short, the agent went back and forth to a back room, made photocopies, wrote stuff, etc. The final result is that I can start working another job right away and after getting one I have to apply for my alien card as soon as possible. I have until May 6th. I don't even need to do a visa run to Japan. Nothing was stamped in my passport. This is all written on my release letter with the official's name and contact number with the date stamped on it. This is without an alien card and an actual visa and having only worked not even 3 months at the previous job.

Strangee but good for me.

The only catch is that I have to pay around 100,000 penalty when I apply for my registration card for registering late. No biggie.

Anyone want to take bets on how long Ying will last at this one?

How about an over/under at 4months?

Well this isn't a fair bet. The odds are against them. This isn't the best time to be looking for a public school position. Who knows what the hagwon sharks are going to do with them.
