This has been discussed before, but not recently. And it is only relevant to a few people using this forum.

But... how have other people from Arizona gone about getting a CRC. The one issued by AZ DPS hasn't been accepted in some cases, and has been accepted in others. The process of getting one through the FBI is convoluted and time consuming.

The FBI doesn't apostille the reports they send you either. So can I order one and get it apostilled?

If anyone who has experience dealing with this can help I would be so grateful.

I'm in Tucson. I ended up getting an FBI record check. You get fingerprinted at whichever police station does that near you (cost $10), then send the finger print card to the FBI. I got it back in two weeks stamped "No Arrest Record" or something to that effect.

heres a link to FBI info on this:

http://www.fbi.gov/howto.htm

Go there, then scroll down to "Most Requested Forms and Services" - the first link under there is "criminal background checks" so click that ... you get the picture. You will go to this page:

http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm

Might as well print the above page; it has all the info you need to finish up ...

You need the cover sheet - there's a link on that page ... and the fingerprint card - FD-258 - also linked on that page - and $18 money order or whatever options they offer.

If you can't find an official FD-258 card, buy some heavy stock paper and just print it from the link on that page.

I got an FBI criminal record check, got it notarized, then took it to the Secretary of State for an apostille. Seems they don't do too many of these in my humble little town, so at first the SoS clerk politely said "no can do". I had to get the Phoenix office to call & confirm, and got it done the next day.
I get to do that again soon, because I plan to go teach in Korea in March.

That's what I did ... when are you leaving?

Bill

Oh! And I used the top section of this page to convince the SoS to apostille my notarized FBI record ...

http://www.state.gov/m/a/auth/c16920.htm

I think that about covers it ...

I had a local CRC in Prescott and Immi. in Daegu accepted it on the same day they said only State or FBI checks would be accepted. I also presented a copy of my fingerprint clearance, as I am a substitute teacher in AZ and they accepted that. It takes 2 or months to get the FBI clearance if your fingerprints are not clear (pianists & nurses have trouble getting good fingerprints.)
