Just what qualifies as "slander/libel" in a country where the truth is not exactly welcome? I wanna get the word out about my ex-boss and all the crap I went through while working there. Basically, I just wanna name the company and tell what happened. Some of the stuff can be backed-up with proof- like a labor board ruling, where as others happened, but there is no proof (since they preferred to say many things on the phone where there was no record.
They don't take kindly to my reminders (via email) as to their "dishonest, disgusting" manner of doing business, so I could see them trying to nail me for saying anything "truthful" ("malicious" in their vernacular).
I would also like to contact one of the schools they operate out of (as an after school prog.) as well as the kids' parents- as I feel one of their employees should certainly NOT be teaching kids- she has a "bit" of an uncontrollable temper, "some" anger issues and is a total control freak who is more concerned with looking like the boss than educating. This makes me wonder whether anyone would do more than feign care, as this seems to be a serious, yet unmentioned, problem in Korea. |

Telling the truth, if it damages someone's reputation, can be considered slander here. So if you want to get the word out, do it as anonymously as you can. |

Remember Minerva? There`s no anonymity here. |

The thing is that their "reputation" has been tainted by the fact that they lost at the labor board and that they lied to the labor board (which I can prove). It would be hard to do so anonymously, as it would be obvious (from the circumstances) who I am.
I don't wanna be anonymous, I want them to know who is doing it. I just wanna have my bases covered. |

Even if you are telling the truth and even if you have proof of wrongdoings, you can be sued for "damaging their reputation" and you will most likely lose.
If you really have to get this out, then do yourself a favor and don't help them be able to prove it was you. Of course, they'll probably know it was you, but don't provide them with a chance to be able to prove it to the police or a judge. |

be patient, wait till you leave the country. I had some affairs to settle in Japan and I waited all the way until it was time for me to leave, and then they were settled when there was no way for it to interfere with my visa. |

That's what I was thinking of- waiting until I leave- then there's no need to hold back. |

Thanks for the link to that article Bramble- it's crazy how reputation is so protected here by law- would be better to protect it by honesty and strength of character. This helps me understand a lot about Korea now. Another piece in the Korean jigsaw puzzle.
NOw I will certainly keep a lid on it until I leave. Maybe a taunting email once in a while. Nothing public. |
