I am looking at the 2009 contract.. (I am renewing)

and I noticed something...

two things... that are different (in English translation) from the 2008 contract that I signed.

1) re overtime teaching hours (max of 6) - the 2009 contract specifies that they MAY be within the regular teaching hours OR outside of them (this was a specific question of mine on this forum recently). Weekends are explicitly offlimits, but clearly you "may" be asked to work after school classes, for e.g.

2) this is an interesting change.

in Article 7 #6.

the 2008 contract stated

During school vacations the Employee MAY be asked to participate in special classes and or English camps up to 20 hours a week.

the 2009 contract states:

During school vacations the Employee SHALL be asked to participate in special classes and or English camps up to 20 hours a week.

I still interpret that to mean "between 8:40 and 4:40" at my school. My school starts at 9:00 and classes run until 2:30, except wednesdays when they finish earlier. I have 'afterschool' classes until 4:30. They are outside of regular teaching hours.

In the same paragraph that weekends are specifically off limits, being at the school for more than 8 hours is also specifically off limits.

your intepretation and the school's can be different.
But other schools will be different.

for e.g. my "regular schedule" definitely runs until 4:30.. if I teach a 7th period class which I do on Mondays for e.g.) , it ends at 4:10 pm or something like that.

the contract simply states you will work 8 hours a day including lunch day.. and it also states you will follow the "regular schedule of Korean civil servants" which MAY be adjusted by your principal Smile

it SPECIFICALLY states in the contract that your "extra hours" MAY be "outside of your REGULAR working hours" which the contract stiupulates to be from 8:30-4:30 or so.aka your 8 hour "workday".
