I have a friend who loves the stuff and has ordered close to 5 bottles through the internet. It is illegal here and in the U.S. He actually found a bar in Itaewon that had a bottle of it but the bartender told him it wasn't the same. I'm guessing it was watered down or the contents were not as strong. I don't think it would be a big deal if you were bring a bottle or two. I think the limit is two bottles of alcohol you can bring in to Korea anyway. Good luck!

Yeah a good friend of mine orders it regularly from Europe, but it's getting expensive with the exchange.

Club Via in Hongdae carries it.

However, here's how they served it when I ordered a shot.

1.) Slotted spoon over a wine glass
2.) Sugar cube
3.) Pour the absinthe over the cube and into the glass
4.) Ignite

Now here's where it got strange...

5.) Take a knife and cut a hole in the cap of a water bottle
6.) Squeeze water onto flaming sugar cube and fill the wine glass

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Serve watered-down absinthe "cocktail" with a squirty bottle water back.

I didn't get the chance to order another as we were leaving, but perhaps with a bit of instruction they'd be willing to serve it without the water. Give it a shot....pun intended. Wink

Not illiegal here. I bring a bottle or two back from every vacation and you can get it in the Russian section in Busan.

Oh, and 2006 it became legal in the states as well Very Happy

It being illigel was just a carry over from the 1920

water is traditionally added to absinthe. If its good stuff, it will turn a milky white, if its great stuff it will turn a slight yellow. Its shite, it will stay green. Sure squirting the water on is a crass turn to the ritual, but the water is normal and to be expected.

Good to know that its legal as its one of my favorite alcohols. I have been known to drink straight shots (depends on the brand) but I agree that it usually tastes better with a cocktail.

I have seen it for sale at a liquor store near my work, but I don't think it is as potent as the real stuff.

I'd gladly part with my last bottle of French made Absente for 80,000KRW if someone is interested. I am heading off soon and I don't actually drink that much these days. I am thinking I should sell it or just give it to one of my closest friends.

The problem with the Absinthe here is that I highly doubt it is cured in the wormwood, giving it that delightful halucinating kick. I'd bet it's the kind that just tastes like the original. they sell that garbage in canada.
