It was called for Coleman, but the difference was under 1,000 votes, so a recount was triggered.

I guess people couldn't vote for Barack Obama and Al Franken on the same ticket: maybe they feared the supermajority.

I am so hoping Franken loses this race although I voted for Obama.

Minnesota, which is home to my father's side of the family, has seen enough of colorful but clueless politicians in recent years. Franken is no exception.

And I have a serious problem with high profile politicos moving into states other than their own just to target a vulnerable opponent. Hillary Clinton comes to mind although admittedly NYC was made for her: same elitist streak.

Franken represents nothing of the Midwest heartland. He's classless and foul-mouthed too.

And he was a second-rate comedian and third-rate radio personality to boot.

Say it ain't so, Joe.

Franken went to Harvard. He seems pretty informed to me. And Norm Coleman? What's he done but mimic Bush's mantra?

Franken grew up in Minnesota. Norm Coleman grew up in New York.

The race really hasn't been called by anyone except Coleman, who declared victory.

Also worth noting, Jeff Merkley defeated two term Senator Gordon Smith in Oregon.

Two other Senate races in Georgia and Alaska still haven't been decided either, for a total of three still up in the air.

Norm Coleman is a bit of an oddball. He use to be a lifelong and committed Democrat, then he suddenly one day just switched to the exact opposite to be a strong Republican on all issues instead. Kinda weird in itself (to me), to do a 360.

He was also one of those commonplace partisan Republicans who ONLY supported the Bush plan in Iraq and was always vocally opposed to Democrats who had many suggestions on the 'war on terrorism' (rather than just the anti-war ones), but REAL suggestions, etc.

Not that Franken wouldn't be partisan, as I'm sure he would be. But I'd rather have a partisan Democrat in these days, than another partisan Republican, particularly a puppet one with no input but blind loyal Bush puppydog stuff.

If anyone wants some dirt on the guy, check out his involvement with Carlson Travel and all the money he has got as checks from them to do a bit of dealings government to company-wise.

Frankin really is a big fat idiot.

Obama is OK, but Frankin would be the worst member in both Houses of Congress.

Bush graduated from Harvard's MBA program. Is he also pretty well informed?

Point noted, but FrankenSTEIN was born in NYC and was lived on the East Coast for much of his adulthood.

Clarification: Yes, Coleman is from NYC and also grew up there. Actually, I don't like him much either since he's also an outsider. But I'd rather have him than Franken any day: lesser of the two evils and all that.

I suppose I should of used the "and" in between the two sentences for people with lesser reading skills. But no, I guess a Harvard education doesn't guarantee one a brain. But it's usually a safe bet.

Trying to highlight his Jewishness? Are you an anti-Semite?

Believe it or not, in this day and age, people move around. Kind of like how some people here get a new sock every few months. Calls of carpet bagger aren't quite as meaningful as when you were a boy.

Franken is a true progressive. I'd take him over Coleman anywhere anytime.

You live in Korea. It's an empty threat to say you'd leave the US if Franken won.

People who publish drivel entitled "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: a Fair and Balanced Look at the Right" do not belong in American politics any more than A. Coulter does.

I celebrate "Angry Al" Franken's loss.

Gopher,

The entire book is a satire. Have you read it? Its mocking the tones of other conservative books of the era. Its not meant to be taken at face value.
