Across from my school it's apparently taking the better part of a year - longer than it took to build our new gymnasium. Between digging things up and mucking around with backhoes and pouring water on gravel and what-not it looks like they're turning it into a year-long project. Oh well, it's still better than the Highway 45 Hwawon / Daeguk interchange in Daegu that they've been working on for four years without looking close to being finsihed.

THis is one case where I will tie it in to back home.

Here's the litmus test: Are you in a rich neighborhood?

Then i will take a week.

Are you anywhere else?

It will take months, if not years.

I've taken many roadtrips all over the lower 48 (every state but North Dakota and Maine) but the one absolute constant was the UNENDING roadwork. Even roadwork that had existed on one of my previous trips (!?!) Confused

That project is truly mindboggling!... at least four years of constant work and and it still looks exactly the same!

My city back home dug up and replaced, dug up replaced and finally fixed the paving in the city centre. Taking years. That kind of bureaucracy is not limited to Korea, it's defiantly a government thing. The speed in which private buildings and projects get erected all over the world put shame to our governments and administrations.

No matter how organized it might seem, you could be talking about Switzerland here, if it's a public works project, someone will find a way to make it do three things at the same time:

1. Take Longer.
2. Cost More.
3. Inconvenience the maximum number of people in the process.

That doesn't mean it's more or less of an irritation here, it should piss you off wherever you pay taxes.

Driving anywhere during construction season kinda makes you wish you'd bought stock in the barrel farm.
