Maybe they're making the headlines more, but it seems like I've seen a lot of stories about people blowing other people away lately. It's getting ridiculous.

Am I correct in this observation?

WTF is wrong with Americans?

The short answer is no.

Just because "yahoo news" decides to cover the story does not mean it's important! The US media likes to talk about crime were the Korean media does not. The murder rate in the US has been decreasing for nearly 30 years!

In 1980 the murder rate in the US was 10 per 100,000, It is now 5 per
100,000.

It is a fact this is one the safest times ever to live in US in modern history! (last 100 years) The 1920's and 30's is when the US murder rate was nearly the highest!

There will always be spates of things, either because of coincidence (statistical clumping) or simply increased media attention.

People have been blowing each other away for years.

It's just the U.S. mentality.

Guns or not they will still be idiots.

It's just another sparkling facet of the entitlement mentality. You know that if many Americans feel we're entitled to kill Iraqis who we've never even met and who have done nothing to us, we're just as likely to kill another American if we feel like the circumstances entitle us.

The bad economy is starting to put fuel on the fire. I really think the bad economy is going to drive up violent crime to unprecedented levels. Any American who was for invading Iraq to knock a few cents or dollar off the price of gas for their car is a sociopath/psychopath/entitlement *beep* and mentally capable of killing another American for his or her money and valuables or perhaps just for sport.
