|
|
My laptop has been causing me problems for a while now so I need to get some technical help. Are there some decent forums with a large community of helpful people giving advice? Please post some links.
I though I may as well briefly post the problem here though just in case any of you have a lot of knowledge.
My laptop has been randomly switching off, not shutting down just completely switching off in a second. It seems to do it mostly when I have a few programs going at the same time or I'm doing something intensive like a virus scan or burning a dvd. The laptop seems to struggle to do basic tasks. |

Sounds like it could be overheating. Ever used an air can to blow out the vents?
Do any of your fans seem to not be functioning? |

I agree with the overheating diagnosis.
www.notebookforums.com is a decent place for info, but they redesigned the site a few years ago and now there are too many ads. The info is still good, though. Be ready to provide some detailed specifics about your computer, though. |

thanks for the info. I'm going to check that forum out now.
I think you're both probably right. I can feel the fan pumping heat out on the left hand side but not on the back fan. Thing is I can't even remember how it used to be, for all I know that one's for sucking in the air.
Would you get a slow down of the laptop due to this problem? It does seem to be running a bit slower these days.
Can you recommend a decent english-speaking place in Yongsan to get it checked out? |

http://www.afterdawn.com is a good general tech forum. You might find some useful info there. |

First, try to fix it yourself, if you have any willingness to try. Google your laptop model and find out hwe to disassemble/clean it. You really only need a can of compressed air and, to be anal, some qtips and isopropyl alcohol.
You'd be surprised how must dust/gunk gets sucked inside it, especially here in S.K., double especially if you are a smoker. |

It's really quite simple. You can get cans of air at the supermarket (emart/homeplus). Just get a screw driver and remove the screws holding the keyboard in place, then you should be able to see vents the air travels down, simply use the can of air to blow the dust out. (don't do this on your bed as if you have never done this there will be a lot of dust.
Another bit of advice to have your laptop sitting on your bed, keep it on a flat hard surface, laptops can over heat quite easily |

if you clean the vents and the back still isn't pushing air out it sounds like your fan might have died. If that is the case you really shouldn't use it until you replace the face. Try to take it out if you can and take it to yongsan and get a replacement. |
