|

I have been charged with arranging an "English Day" in Seoul for a class of about a dozen adults of very low speaking ability (civil servants from other cities), and am kind of at a loss. All I can think of is loading them on the bus, heading for Itaewon, and going to an ethnic (Indian, Mediterranean) restaurant where the owner is a foreigner, so they'll be forced to order in English.
Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? Is there some possibility of introducing them to GIs at some sort of US military public-relations function? How about having them volunteer for a day at a foreign-language school?
If youve ever been in a similar situation, or have any ideas or resources to offer, that would be greatly appreciated. |

Take them to the nearest English Village or kind of create your own if you have other people who speak English who could give you a hand.
I don't know if there is anything like it, but if there are English guided tours of Seoul that could save you a lot of work.
Anyway, good luck to you! |

the foreign-owned restaurants in Seoul are managed by people who speak K, not just E.
why not go see an E film? then there's subtitles as well -
btw, I don't really think it's appropriate to take a class to a U.S. military installation just so they can get exposure to E.
as a U.S. taxpayer, I think it's pretty outrageous, actually. |

You could take them to the USO...
There must be some cultural exchange centres from the English speaking countries here. Look into that and an English guided tour of Seoul. Why would they only send the low level civil servants? Wouldn`t they be miserable? |

The English guided tour is a cool idea! I've never been but I assume they're guided by Koreans, so I'd just have to rig it with the guide to make sure he doesn't speak to them in Korean. |
