I find that a bit strange!! There is a decent sized contigent of Christians in this country and one would think the ascention to heaven of their savior would be important enough to celebrate. Do they celebrate Easter in the Hermit Kingdom?

After reading Korea is 50% Christian and seeing all these orange glowing crosses, I expected Easter to be recognized, but it's not. 4 day holiday in America and other western countries. In fact, the mechanics in these farm tractor, tire, and engine shops behind my house have been banging and clanging since 8AM with their lug nut power tools, jacks, and tools. I couldn't imagine working the 7 day - 12 to 13 hour per day work week they work other than if it were military. And then you still get 4 day passes if soldiering; they don't.

Happy Easter. I got ham and beans slow cooking. And potato salad is also on the menu.

Why such a lack of holidays for a democratic liberalizing society? People do need to take time out to be themselves and be with their family and friends. It disturbs me to learn that most Koreans haven't seen Seoraksan, Gyeongju, and historic places/museums in Seoul. A 1 or 2 day weekend is not enough time to travel and do much more than just go for a short drive to do go have a meal.

They`re drones. They marginalize the holidays to weekends. They think working your socks off is the way to industrialize, etc. Vacation is a bad word here. I shudder to think about the level of stress and the mental health of this nation.

It seems losing_touch is in touch with someone or something. Where did you get the Easter Goodies.

I have been talking to both westerners and Koreans about exactly this topic. I am all for getting ahead and doing well for yourself and your family (if you have one), but these people are going to wake up 60 years old and realize they pissed away 40+ years working 6 days a week at 12 hours a day for what? There has to be a limit! Sometimes a see a very sad society around me. One that is driven by money and too much materialism. No soul, which I believe is contained in their cell phones. I have never seen a people so enamored by an electronic device. I see Koreans molesting them constantly.

The problem is that if you`re not working your ass off then you`re seen as a delinquent. As a salaryperson in this country, you need to be "productive" to get ahead or stay in the game. If you`re not willing to do that then there`s another drone that will take your place.
