At the end of a long stretch of bad luck, I am (perhaps unwisely) going home at the eight-month mark -- sure there's only four left but I really don't think I could make it that four without resorting to violence or insanity, and besides, this actually puts me at home on time to pick up a teaching job for next year.

I'm taking the scenic route back -- hopping to Thailand, maybe, then up to the trans-siberian express, then going through Europe, and hopping from London on home.

Obviously I need a few things for the trip -- one of them is a decent backpack that'll take what I need after the rest of my luggage is shipped home. I plan on keeping to the beaten path, probably just a few days in each country/city. That'll help cut down on the amount I need to bring -- particularly since I'm only about 5'1" and maybe 50 kilos.

So, internet, any idea where I could pick up a good traveling backpack for someone my size?

And if anyone knows where I could pick up an International Youth Travel Card, I'd be game for that as well.

Beyond that, any and all travel advice is accepted -- I'll be a first-timer in Europe, and while I don't plan on getting too crazy, I'm sure with my luck some crazy will find me instead.

Backpacks at good rates and sizes can be found at Namdaemun market in Seoul along the Line 4 street.

Where are you going to catch the train?
And how will you get to the train?
How long will you stay in SE Asia?
Do you know about the Russian visa requirements?

Haha. Yeah, I started doing some /actual/ research and going the Russian route looks like an incredible pain in the keister.

I thought about going right to Europe but the simplest thing might be to just leave Korea, go through Thailand and associated countries, and then hop home and save Europe for someday in the future.

But I oughta go /somewhere/ while I'm here.

I have anywhere from one week to two months. It all depends on what goes on at home from here on out; I'm trying to secure a teaching job from here, a bit of a red tape fiasco but it should be possible. (Alaska, anyone?)

I'd definitely be up for a road trip across Alaska. And it's a good time to go. But I'd wanna ride a bike over the CanAm to Canada.
