|
|
I'm all set to go to Thailand at the end of April. I've been hearing a lot lately about the protests turning to violence and some how taxi drivers and bus drivers are joining the cause. I'm excited to be going as I've had two previous plans fall through.
I was curious if anyone else has plans to go and keep them despite the current situation. I'd also like to hear from anyone in Thailand that can offer useful suggestions on areas to say out of.
Maybe some one from the Thailand forum is browsing here and can't respond so here is my email which is on my profile anyways. [email protected].
If anyone knows of any good Thai forums please direct me there.
Thanks. |

Thanks for the links. My ticket has layover in Taiwan so if the situation is looking round it looks like I'll be vacationing in Taipei.
Anyone ever been there? Guess I'll start researching a plan B... damn I really want to go to Thailand. |

Don't despair--- Go even w/the clashes. They won't bother you, and if you head to a quiet place, you shouldn't have any problems.
Give it a try...If there's a riot/demonstration somewhere, Thailand's best place to view it.
Or jump on some kind of tuk-tuk and go to Laos/Myanmar/Cambodia and wait it out. |

I'm leaving for Bangkok in 5 days.
It is an internal political thing, not to do with foreigners....just be aware and don't wear a red shirt when you go outside!
Some of my friends had a water party yesterday, sounded like good fun. I can't wait to get there. |

| Why don't you send us an insiders update when you get there. I guess we can take good news as now news. If you go to Thailand and stay holed up in an internet cafe I guess we could take that as the streets are dangerous. Right now I'm still planning on going myself. |

I just last night....things are getting back to normal.
I was there during the coup in 2006 and the demonstrations late last year....
Most tourists don't even get near the demonstrations though they were near the city center this time but generally tourists aren't affected...
don't worry...enjoy |

You'll be fine. Stock up on your necessities before going back to Korea and you may save enough to pay for your ticket there. Deodorant, mouthwash, and shampoo especially are all much cheaper in Thailand.
If you could pack up a substantial haul of fruit and take it back, you would save a hell of a bundle. A watermelon the size of a volleyball will cost you about 12 bucks (~15K won) in Korea. One'll run you about a dollar in Thailand. |

| I'd guess no way in hell. Well, there is one way that may work...You could pretend to be a pregnant woman and try to get it through that way. |
