Thanks for all the help so far... questions keep popping up.
Who Pays for the health check? You, SMOE, or the school?
My school has scheduled an appointment to go tomorrow and they say I am responsible for paying for the health check. It is 90,000W. Can someone please clarify? |

I'm a GEPIK teacher and I had to pay for mine, which came to about 70,000. I think the price depends on the hospital. |

You pay for it unless you have a really, really cool school.
But something else bothers me in your post: The school scheduled your appointment and chose the doctor? No.
The rule is that your health check is for immigration and must be done within 90 days of being in country on an E2 visa. Now public schools require a copy of the report, but in the SMOE contract there is nothing that forces you to take it early or at a clinic chosen by your school. One more thing to consider: If the doctor sees all the teachers at your school, you WILL be talked about. There is no medical privacy.
Choose your own doctor and pay your own way. |

Thanks for the responses.
@ Bibbitybop... I appreciate you bringing up some possible concerns. I think in my case they're just trying to help me out and there's no malicious intent.
I had a coteacher helping me out today with opening up a bank account and trying to get me a cell phone. The cell phone place said I needed an alien card (which is what another cell phone place told me when I was looking with a Korean friend of mine) and she was trying to help me get the cell with just my passport. It was then her understanding that I needed a health check in order to get my alien card so she set it up. |

It's NOT 90,000 won.....I just did my health check the other day for SMOE. Did they not tell you to go to the hospital at Samseong Station? It costs 51,000 won (discounted for SMOE employees
That's where SMOE send their teachers.....I guess your school are organzing it for you at at a more expensive hospital. If you go to to the hospital by Samseong station it will cost 40,000 won less, doctors speak English and you don;t need an appointment. |

They set it up at the Seoul National University Hospital by Hyehwa station. I really don't think they know any better. I may be just the second native teacher at the school or one of the first. |

Every hospital is different. Mine cost 40,000 at a hospital near Hongdae. |

Hi Looney, was that Seoul Medical Center that you went to? I just called up my contact at the school and told them I will be going there instead. That one seems to be by Samseong Station.
Thanks for your help! |
