I don't have the benefits of medical insurance because I am not considered a full time worker with CDI. So in regards to medical insurance, I am wondering what company should I go with? And should I have to purchase medical insurance before I get to Korea?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

I don't really know much about it. It might be good to have a korean insurance company as things will prob get dealt with quicker but just might be easier to deal with a medical insurance company from your own country, as we all know how all insurance companies don't like to pay out, so it might be easier to argue with someone who speaks english.
I'm sure you will get some good advice though |

If you are employed at CDI and they do not help you get NHI, they are operating illegally. All of us lowly foreigner scum are entitiled to NHI.
CDI will point you toward a private insurance company but, doctors will not honor a private insurance company. I know this from experience.
Best to demand NHI. |

thanx for your replies! my contract with CDI specifically states that I won't be entitled to such benefits because I am not considered a fulltime employee. So that means I have to purchase my own NHI right? Do you follks know how much is it? |

If you have an E-2 visa, you are NOT an independant contractor, you are NOT part-time, and you ARE entitled to NHI and they should pay half. However, CDI is known for not doing what the law requires, |

But with the high hourly wages, wouldn't CDI make up for not covering health insurance?
I hear the cost of health insurance monthly is cheaper than in the United States.
Can anyone give me the range of costs? |

it's around 60,000 won a month if you pay th full amount each month yourself.
It's supposedly illegal to be on an E2 and not have your employer pay 50/50 for medical insurance and pension.......but as someone else said CDI have been doing this for years with seemingly no consequences....not to mention countless other hagwons.

is it not in your contract? if it is and they're refusing to pay it you could take the matter to the labor board expecially if you're paying your half.
well anyways, there's a number on the NHIC site and they speak English so best ask them perhaps
