So I just got a public school position in Gongju and I was waiting on NJ to send me back my apostilled background check, but while doing this I decided to check out the consulate general's website for the exact things I'd need to get a visa so I went over to NYC with my passport and got everything squared away.

So I have a flight to Korea on Wednesday, but the state still hasn't sent my apostilled CBC back yet, I just finished talking to them and they claim they sent it 2-3 weeks ago..so either they're bs'ing me or it's lost in the mail. My question is since I have my visa already, do I still need the background check?

Did you get a Letter of Appointment from your public school, or a Visa Issuance Number?

Did you get an E2 teaching visa or something else, such as a tourist visa?

yeah i went to the consulate with a copy of my letter of appointment and my contract, and ten they told me they needed the original so i emailed the school and they air mailed it to me and once i gave the consulate the original they gave me back my passport with the visa inside it.

worst case scenario i have a notarized background check that i can have my parents get apostilled and mail to me, i'm hoping.

EDIT: yeah just to clarify, i just looked at it and it clearly says E-2, so i should be good right? or is there gonna come a time when i'll have to produce this background check abroad?

Did the check you sent the state clear? Or does NJ do them for free? I'm just curious, PA charges $15/document.

This is certainly a strange situation. I had to send off my CBC to my employer who needed to submit it to get my visa number. You seem to be indicating that you were issued a visa without this document.

This being Korea, I don't think anyone can say either way. Maybe you can contact the school and see what is going on. Some immigration officer could have overlooked something maybe.

i paid $40 for my CBC to get apostilled here in NJ, but that's bcuz i wanted it expedited, otherwise it's $25. i paid with my credit card in person so it's already been charged, i've spoken to them (state division of revenue, who apostilles docs) and they say that they sent it 3 weeks ago, so it's supposedly lost in the mail at this point which sounds like total bs to me since the postal service is one of the few things that actually runs like clockwork from experiences.

as far as the visa goes though, on the consulate website there is no mention of background check which is why i figured i could probably get a visa without it. maybe it's different bcuz i went to the consulate in person? idk.

i already told the chick at ybm that i've been in contact with everything and she said that i should just bring what i have just in case and tell my parents to mail the apostilled cbc when it comes (hopefully), however i just wondering the actual likelihood of me having producing the documents considering i already have the visa since that was the main purpose fotr them anyway.
