Whats the worst that can happen if you quit with out giving notice. The chance of a GREAT job has come up but it starts ASAP and my contract says 45 days need to be given.
Can they with hold the letter of transfer or release? |

Yea, until your contract is up. If you just leave without turning in your ARC card, you might have a hard time coming back (more hoops to jump through).
How far into your contract are you? If you are really in a bad situation, you might try convincing immigration to give you an exit order. |

Basically, they've swindled and bamboozled me at every turn. Classic story where all the things they told me about the job weren't true.
A friend has found me another job that can be vouched for and I want to take it. The only thing that holds me back is that I can't give 45 days notice to take it. |

Many people have been canceling their visas themselves recently. They either go to immigration and tell them they've been fired and ask for an exit order, or tell the immigration officer at the airport exit gates to cancel their visa. I haven't actually tried this (haven't had to) but people on here say it's been done and worked. So no LOR are needed in these cases.
That said, you never know what your current employer will do if you just get up and leave without proper notice - might put in a bad word for you at immigration which might make it difficult acquiring a new visa. |
