Okay, I have tried my best to find the most objective information on the following, but I have had little luck. I was offered a position with the Olympiad Hagwon in Seoul, has anyone had any experiences with them? I was connected with them through Park English, has anyone gone through them before?
Secondly, I have received an offer with Chung Dahm institute, I have read quite a few unpleasant things about them, should I except the position, or hold out for other offers?
Thanks for any information you can offer, I need to decide soon.

The zillions of unknown hagwons are a crapshot, might be good, might be hell. Hopefully someone here can be of help. Have you been in contact with any other FT's there? Have you established a rapport with Park English, that you can contact them with any problems after you are settled in?
CDI, from what I've read, is for someone who wants to put their best foot forward with a professional attitude towards teaching and are reliably compensated for the effort.
With CDI though, you will have a week of training before you know where you'll be placed, so that's the crapshot in that deal. |

You can't really tell one hagwon from the other, since they are independently owned and run. Ask them what books they use, if any.
Decide if you want to teach out of those books. |

Ask CDI how much vacation/days off you can expect to receive and decide accordingly.
Good advice from a previous poster concerning other hakwons; don't make a move until you talk to teachers currently there. |

I would never do that, and I guess I will never be working for CDI under those terms. I haven't done this since getting hired at NOVA in Japan. They told me I would only have to teach 3 students maximum. What they didn't tell me was that 13 other teachers would be crammed into glass cages (like the red light district) teaching English as well to their 3 students. You get 40 people on one floor trying to speak English, and you can barely hear the person next to you.
Request pictures of the exact classroom they want you to teach in. If you live in Korea, visit the school in person and take the tour. It's worth it. |
