Can someone give me suggestions.
Have a friend who might be interested in coming to Korea. However, she doesn't want to teach English. She said that she wouldn't mind teaching math.
She is an accountant back home (qualified, degree).
Is there other options for her teaching in Seoul/Korea, not English?

Simple answer: Your friend should not come if she does not want to teach English. SO NO.
Complex Answer: Maybe if she had a one in a thousand chance she could teach at an International school but .....whoops you need a teaching cert or an education degree. So next chance she could try and teach SAT prep course but she would likely get refused because they have thousands of Koreans who speak Korean and are cheaper then your friend. |

Why should Koreans hire someone who has nothing unique to offer? Koreans are perfectly capable of teaching math.
If your friend gets hired by some international company that then sends your friend here to work, all well and good. If your friend comes here and manages to find one of the few jobs that is not connected to teaching English, well and good. But don't plan on it. |

It astonishes me how often people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about can give advice so freely.on this board
Yes, it is possible to teach math in Korea, as well as other subjects. International schools hire all the time and they have a wide range of prerequisites. What is your friend's degree and teaching experience?

Trevor you just answered the question with my answer. I said she could try and teach at an International school but it would be hard as she would need a teaching certificate or an Education degree to even be really considered for a job. If you read the original post she has a degree in accounting. So International schools are pretty much out of the question.
Now having an accounting degree may give her some expertise in teaching basics and statistics but what about AP level courses in Calculus or Advanced math. And the only place I can see wanting someone with English and Math would be some of the SAT Prep places but she would also still need to teach history, English, etc
Still she is not worth for a Korean school to have her come here. Why hire somebody who does not speak the language, do troubsome visa paper work, expensive airplane ticket, when they can hire a Korean for half the price or get a college student for a quarter of the price.
Maybe if she could teach math in conjunction with English she might have some more luck. |

Some engineering universities are in dire need of English mathematics and engineering professors. If your friend has a Masters, she/he has a very good chance of getting into a university. |
