Hey this is Drew,
I have a semester left on my ba, however due to certain.. circumstances.. I have a year to kill before I can complete my school stint.
I was able to obtain a F4 working visa from the consulate without a degree, what would be the next step? I'd rather not go the degree mill route, but wouldn't be opposed to it if need be..
I've browsed the job listings on this site, but they all require a degree, should I go ahead and apply anyway?
Any help from all you experienced teachers would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Drew
ps. I would like to find a position asap because philly is grimey. |

First of all your a jerk.(of course philly's grimy, deal with it)
Second I would say look into the TALK program. They accept teachers who don't have thier BA yet. Also if your on an f4 your opportunities for legally private tutoring once you get here are much greater.
I wish you the best of luck escaping my beloved hometown. |

juregan: flippin your mom is mo betta fun.
qbert: born on cottman bro, philly is america's bathroom.
I've heard of the talk program, is that still accepting apps? The site doesn't mention it anymore, its just the generic footprints job placement.
I was told that its mostly immigration that checks if you have a degree to issue a visa? The actual institutions only require a valid working visa? ..might have been misinformed. |

This may or may not be official policy yet but I hear that if you have completed 80 credits then you can still teach and be registered under the ministry of education.
There are a few other options if that doesn't work out.
One, you can teach part-time. Part-time work does not require a degree as there is usually no contract or benefits that would require the school to register you.
Two, you can teach full-time but not get registered. Some schools will do this but they'll definitely use that point against you.
Three, you can teach private lessons. Obviously that would be hard for you if this is your first time here. It's best to do through connections. Since you are on an F4 visa then it's perfectly legal. Well, you are supposed to register as a tutor and pay taxes but that's your choice.
(null point removed)

In that case, come right on over here with your fake diploma! I sure hope you don't think the jails in this country are anywhere near the caliber of the ones back in Philadelphia. |

Korean Immigration and the local education offices have not spared any expense in hunting for fake degrees and in verifying our degrees. When I was in GEPIK one year, I was asked by a couple of different parts of the Korean government to prove I had a valid (accredited) BA. If you have an F4 visa but not a BA/BS degree, it would be better for you to come over without a fake, diploma mill degree. Korean Immigration has a lot less spite and interest for F4 holders teaching without a four year degree than for fake degrees and the tourist visa backpackers. |

... orly?
m-tea: thanks for the help, ideally I would like to land a full-time gig at a hagwon. I have read that some are lax in document requirements. I would guess at this point my only recourse would be to mass app to different hagwons in hopes of tagging one?
Is anybody familiar with recruiters that can help my cause? Contact with them just to get better informed would be very helpful.
TIA,
Drew
Draz: if you're reading this could you possibly pm me your friends recruiter? I was reading a comment you posted in an earlier thread but do not have the required 25 post minimum to pm. Would rather not troll and point out obvious facts for post count. |

the Korean government is gracious enough to grant you an F4 visa (which is NOT a work visa btw) laden with all kinds of privileges and this is what you turn around and consider doing? getting a fake degree?
I hope immigration catches you and forever deny your entry, because it's people like you who give all gyopos a bad rep. among the mainstream Korean society.
finish your school or flip burgers kiddo. |

Staying in the country with any "F" Visa isn't going to be a problem.
Finding a job you're satisfied with will be the problem. You're not likely to find the type of job you're looking for. Despite this fact, they're plenty of jobs out there for people without degrees. You WILL find work here and the $$$ to pay the bills. |

I know a guy who just got his F4 visa who is looking to get a hagwon job in Seoul. He is currently in the TALK program and wants to stay longer. Perhaps you should look into the TALK program first and then at getting a hagwon job, which I heard you might be able to get with an F4. What do you have to lose.
BTW, the Immigration and Education horror stories about those officials chasing fake degrees nearly to the end of the earth are true. No reasonable person would want to be at the target of a manhunt like that. |

Would buying my own ticket and flying over to korea to jobhunt be a viable option? I am of Korean ethnicity and able to converse at a elementary level..

Ever hear of Graterford?
Sorry, OP. But get lots of copies of your transcripts before you leave in case some unseen opportunity (transfer?) does come along. You might even end up with employment that could equal internship to apply to your degree completion?
Question: Does a Uni issue sealed transcipts to non-grads? |

Hey Drew,
Here's the ad for TaLK.
http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/index.cgi?read=36888
It's for rural Korea though, about as far from Philly as you can get. And the pay is low (1.5), but so are the hours (15/week). Maybe with your F4 you can pick up privates on the side? |
