I can't see her keeping a job like that for too long.
Just be happy it's a clean break and move on. Do the math buddy. You're in Seoul. It's statistically improbable for you not to find another girl. Just take some time in the mountains this weekend and get out and see parts of the city you haven't before.
Then again you'd be taking advice from a total idiot (me). Good luck whatever you do. |

I have a friend with a similar schedule.. actually for her it's 9-midnight and she's been doing it for a year and a half. Her boss works from 9am-5am and has been doing that for 5 years.
You'd think that a schedule like that would kill you, wouldn't you?
I've been through that hell before, though. After three years, it killed me. That kind of schedule is SO unhealthy for you. Never again... |

^^^^ Does the 20 hr/day schedule come about from inefficiency or the guy is just really dedicated to his business? I mean, I guess he could do it if he takes little naps during the day, but a long vacation would be needed every other month or so, methinks. |

Greene same thing happened to me!!!!
I was seeing a Korean guy and this year he was working way longer hours than before (like 10am to9 or 10pm) and when I saw him on Friday night he was tired and Saturdays he just wanted to sleep.
Then a few weeks ago he was working from home(on the weekend!!) so couldn't meet me on my birthday so that was the final straw!!!!!
Very disappointing as last year things were good.
Plus his boss didn't like foreign girls |

Why would that matter? You`re not dating the boss. |

Back in 2001, I was working at 2 schools and doing telephone English at night. I had to work from 6:30am until 11:30pm with 4 hours during the day to rest or take care of other business. I did that for 6 months- yeah, never again! I was sick for a year and a half after that.
But during that time, I found time to date 2 girls- one of whom became my long-term gf for 4 years. It is ok to do for the short-term, but to do it long-term opens a whole can of worms that can lead to break-up and divorce.....I guess that is why many celebs break-up or divorce after a short time of marriage.
I guess being in a relationship involves a delicate balancing act of work and the significant other. |

Your absolutely correct, it shouldn't matter in reality. But in the land of the 'Face Value', things seem to be a little different!
My question is: When does productivity become unproductive. When one has a desk job and you find that someone looking catatonic with blood shot eyes and a pool of drool on their desk. Even the children with regard to their education. Most are exhausted all the time! I believe it does more harm than good and the kids would learn more and better if they slept for 5 hours a night. There's a lot I just don't understand about this society! |

The answer is quite a bit funnier than you'd think.
I used to work in the finance department of a (now) major bank. As soon as the clock hit 5 PM, I was hitting the elevator button and was outta there like a regular American. I did notice that a lot of the Korean ajosshis would stay behind and I assumed it was due to work ethnic/face issues.
Only later did I finally accept my co-workers' offers for me to stay after work once. Then I saw that they stayed after work blatantly playing games, chatting, and smoking their time away. There was never even an attempt to make it look like they were working. Once it hit a certain hour (7 or 8 PM IIRC), they were now authorized to use the company credit card for dinner, presumably as a reward for being a diligent worker who continued to work after hours. This then explained the bills I saw for 80,000 won hamburger dinners (I previously just assumed they were really rich). I was told that these guys were only sticking around at work for the free dinners! |

It reminds me of the Korean Consulate in New York City before they remodeled it. When I was in line getting my visas, I would always see a group near the file cabinets behind the glass either eating, smoking or playing cards. They remodeled it so the person doesn't see that anymore....though it doesn't mean it doesn't happen- it is just out of sight.... |

She, actually.. but yeah, from what I hear, it's not inefficiency, it's just that they are really dedicated to the business and simultaneously feel like they have no choice but to work so much. Also feeling like it's easier/faster to do the job herself than to delegate it. That actually mostly goes for the boss. My friend just feels like she can't complain about working until midnight if her boss is working until 5am. |
