PBS documentaries tend to be a little too Leftist for my taste, but some of them are really good. The recent one about the US debt and what it means for the future, "Ten Trillion and Counting" was excellent (and scary!). This one looks promising too.

Good show. Nothing new but well done and at only 13 min...perfect. I think they should get those kids to one of those Chinese boot camps that I saw on Discovery Channel a few months back. Laughing

Anyhow, all I can say is this internet phenomena, addiction, is happening all over the world and if I had been born 10 years later, I would probably be one of those addicted.

When people think PBS is 'leftist' the world has gone mad, and ignorant.

agreed.

not to mention using the term "taste" in the context of information is, well, absurd?

I saw the title and changed my mind... It's pretty easy to be very wired when the country is fairly small...

I am a stauch liberal, but you're kind of a twit if you don't know PBS is "ours."

Is this a good video to show students?

I watched it last night and couldn't help, but to laugh at the idea of internetaholic and IA, Internet Anonomous groups. And the parents concern that internet addiction is like a bad drug addiction. The 10 day camp was good for those soft spoiled gamers, but you know they will be back to their usual gaming and lack of interest in school once they get home.

The elementary students singing a song about netiquette touched me. Very cute and sincere attempt at teaching them a lesson of living life in the internet where you don't know people personally nor know their faces, but you know the kids will forget it within 2 hours be yelling into their microphones, "f*ck you B*tch," when they get killed or lose to an opponent.

Starcraft really reminds me of the Command and Conquer I used to play on Playstation with friends, except today, it's internet based and even has a professional league as shown in the video. I think it's funny. You see these 2 pods on stage with robot looking kids. This is the generation where man merges himself with machine and becomes.....drumrolll...Cyborgs!

Really, Korea is not the most wired country, they all can be just as wired by the use of satellite which is how KTF provides internet service. It's just a gamer and cell phohe centric culture. I even seen people on Seoul subway using palm top computers with cellular internet. Seems like everyone in Seoul are drones in the matrix and lost the concept of what is to be humans interacting with humans in the real physical world. In the country, most people don't use PC's, but have cell phone for talking. The country kids do spend a lot of time PC gaming and in PC bangs just like city and even have more time to do it as their are not many private academies and kids have plenty of free time.

It really is a serious dysfunction of the youth, but it's the sign of the times. I used to play Nintendo and my games like Final Fantasy and Blaster Master were all I'd think about during classes so it did hamper my ability to make good grades in high school, get a high class ranking, and get accepted into a really good university with scholorships like the way I could had had I'd been motivated. I did naturally get less and less interested in computer games during my 20's and boned down to study and work. Now, today, I'm an internetaholic where I read a lot, chat, watch music vids, and watch movies.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, I don't get your point. I wasn't claiming ownership of PBS. Maybe I've misunderstood you, or you're referring to someone else.

Anyway, I was talking about the reality nowadays where anything that is remotely off government or establishment line is called 'leftist'. The very term 'leftist' is a joke, but that's another matter.

Obama is centre-right, Gordon Brown is centre-right. When their policies are put on a scale of political ideology, they will be seen as centre-right, not left. The US has it worst than most other countries in this respect, where they view Europe as socialist, because social welfare is perceived as 'leftist' by the US.

It is this seismic shift to the right throughout the western world that has led to almost anything that is remotely challenging to this dominant paradigm being derided as 'leftist', that is what I was getting at.

Very interested by the documentary, as I'm going to be coming to Seoul at the end of the summer for the first time to teach... It will be interesting to learn first hand about such a heavily advanced technological culture and its affect on society... I'm kind of a hippie who loves the city!
