My co-worker is quitting after a couple of months of teaching at my university, and they have said that they will report her to immigration. What exactly does this mean? Will she be banned from working for Korea for life?

If they give proper notice to the university, then there's really nothing they can do I think. Give the 30 days and that should be good.

If the Uni reports them after being civil, you should name which one it is.

Trust me, I will.

They have just threatened to do the same to me, because I have told them I am leaving at the end of June to pursue a university job in Seoul (by then I will have worked for them for 4 months). My research tells me that one simply has to do the following:

1. Cancel E-2 and leave Korea
2. Come back as a tourist
3. Apply for an E-2 from scratch
4. Get confirmation number
5. Do visa run
6. Come back to Korea
7. Profit!

By report her to Immigration, they probably just mean they will have to notify them and cancel the visa.

Can they somehow blacklist her and/or me from getting another E-2 visa?

Immigration won't just take their word for it, no.

Thanks, my stress level just tanked.

What a pain, but damn if my Korean girlfriend isn't worth the hassle...

Don't worry, even if your Korean girlfriend isn't worth the hassle, your American girlfriend might be.

Under six months and they may have the right to withhold the cost of your airfare from your last pay if they flew you over or reimbursed you. Or if they paid for a visa run to Japan from your last job if you were working in Korea prior to this job.

Any idea how much it was?

This uni must be wonderful to work for...two teachers leaving before getting in six months.

I want to drop everything, enroll in an MA program, work my tail off, spend a bucket of mulla on tuition, and get a job there.

Put my name on the waiting list before you fly off from this outfit. I'm sure one must wait at least a semester (probably two) before getting a job.

About 1.2 million krw; I paid it and was reimbursed.

Tobias--actually, a third teacher quit after working less than 6 months, so there are THREE in this story. He's on an F-visa, so had no problems, though.

Only if it says so in the contract. Otherwise, they can't legally withhold the money or demand it back.

Ok Mike, just so you are aware that they may want that money back, and it's only fair. Check your contract.

If they give you a LOR, the Uni may just send you to Japan for a new visa from there, forget all that tourist crap. The CBC should still be good under six months?

Jesus. I'm reminded why I haven't started an MA program yet. Anyone know the site address of a good culinary arts program back in the USA? I think I'm gonna need it.
