|
|
I was searching for teacher certification courses online and found what looks like a pretty good one at drexel university in philadelphia, but it's pretty expensive.
Do other countries like England, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have similar online teacher certification courses that might be cheaper? |

Grand canyon univerity
Phoenix univerity
UNLV
U or ohio
are a few i know of off the top of my head.
All have programs THAT do get you certified in the states.
The key to a REAL online program is to make sure they have BOTH a real campas and a classroom class as well as a distance class if they do then your golden. If not its just a paper mill
There are lots of ways to get certified though look it up you will be suprised.
I am certified in two states and will get the national cert next year.... and I took the alternative route .........lol but I already had a masters and UNI teaching exp in the states ........anyway do some research lots of options even so desigen for people who want to work in international schools |

| Are you looking for a TEFL certification or do you want to be certified to teach in the US? If you want a TEFL cert I agree that the online certificate would be a waste of time and money. The most respected/accepted certificates have a teaching component. I can't remember how many hours but you have to be present for that part of the program. If you want to be a certified teacher, I don't think there is any such thing as online certification. Maybe you can take the necessary classes online but teacher certification requires 1-2 semesters of student teaching. |

| The University of Pheonix program requires one semester of in-class student teaching at a school recognized by the University. It is almost impossible to get a true Teacher's Certifacation online. They will require some form of student teaching. |

Ahh yes .... But, once course work is finished you can generally find an international school with US certs or wacs, IB or some such to hire you. and then you can work and "student teach" at the same time.
I know several people who have gone this route to teach internationally and still get US ceritication.............there even 5 approved schools in Korea I know of hehe
But, YES you have sometype of teaching component |

If you want a true certification that's accepted by the US gov't, it takes more than any TEFL course will offer you.
The true lithmus test is whether or not a certification will allow you to teach in a state/govt/public school as a full-time staff member.
No TEFL course I know of, teaching component or not, will meet that criteria -- depsite how "accepted" they claim to be. No online course will allow for this, either.
You can get a job teaching at, for example, a community college in the USA with an online degree plus classroom experience. I've seen it happen. Not a public school.
A TEFL "certification" won't get you a job at a community college, even. |
