I was a little shocked. I'm actually a big fan of G-Market, so I'm not sure whether I'll use it or not anymore. In fact, we just got a bunch of packages this week from stuff we ordered off of the site. |

I'm using Gmarket and getting special things like jars of alfredo sauce, but find it cumbersome and time consuming and I do miss my eBay. Gmarket is an experiment in the making as it's cumbersome, partially dysfunctional, and disorganized as can be, so I hope eBay can step in to improve it functionality. Disorganized as in improper categorizing for the many millions of items listed. Dysfunctional in that many listings are too large, RAM consuming, and slow down the computer too much as well as many errors or failures in adding things to the shopping cart. Cumbersome in that it's not fully user friendly with user account controls with unnecessary slowness. The big thing Gmarket has going really well is sellers are generally much more honest than many western eBayers. Haven't had any issues and they automatically refund my money when they can't deliver. I've had my money refunded 19 times so far, becuase the things I try to buy, the seller has problems getting into Korea at a profit due to trade barriers.
eBay improve Gmarket! |

What will happen is everyone will dump those two in favor of other auction sites if the changes are a bad move. |

They didn't buy gmarket, they simply bought a controlling share. |

The controlling share being 67% and they plan to try and buy 100%... they might as well. They're going to be pulling the strings. |

If you're a major shareholder in a company, you'll be going to quarterly board meetings with the CEO and executive staff and will have a lot of weight to influence their business decisions. If you have a 67% share in an Ecommerce site, you're probably computer smart and going to want to improve it's functionality and will give detailed technical suggestions to the CTO, chief technical officer.
I would expect to see Gmarket change and maybe improve given time for them identify, troubleshoot, and rewrite better software. |

Its a business move its a way for them to break into Asian markets that they dont have too much knowhow about working in to offset worsening conditions in the western markets that have been their core since inception if youre a company of EBays magnitude you dont start fresh in mature markets, you acquire the leading players implement some of your own methods and grow the business into one thats more valuable than when it was purchased additionally, theyre pretty desperate to get into China and Koreas their platform to do that
What theyre not doing is buying GMarket to rebrand to the site as EBay
And it's a much more sensible acquisition than Skype... still not sure what they were thinking when they bought that... |
